Legrace's System

I've already posted elsewhere pics where I live, my car, and my vintage turntables. OK here's the rest...

Amplification is combination of tubes and SS. Tubes are 125w monoblock amps that I assembled from kits. SS is a Marantz PM11S1. Speakers are Tannoy D700's, horizontally biamped. (tubes to the low taps, SS to high) At very bottom left of pic is a SVS2000 sub, 12" sealed unit. Using its high pass filter to filter the signal into the tube amps, set to pass 80hz and above. Overall a triamp setup as three distinct freq bands being separately amplified.

Table on the right is a Denon DP80, connected to a Sutherland Phd phono pre. The Sutherland is a beast of a phono pre weighing in at almost 40 pounds, powered by 16 x D cells. Good for about a year. Interconnects are Siltech 330i. Table on the left is a Dual 721, connected to the MC input of the Marantz.

Gear wise a CD player rounds things out, nothing special though. Finally have a number of GIK panels scattered about.

Also incl a pic of how she looked roughly 3 years ago...

Thanks. Wow you have an Aphelion, first time I am seeing one in the wild. What is SN? Amazing no doubt.

Very nice system.
What led you to the Sutherland PhD phono stage and how do you find it?

Hi Down Under. Fun story actually. Was wanting to get a phono stage offering adjustable loading for my MC's. The Phd was sat in the preowned section of a high end shop located about an hours drive from where I live.

Got talking to the owner about it. I think oh here he goes with the butter them up selling tactic, saying I must really know my stuff given my interest in this particular unit. Except he then mentions he has the same model in his own personal rig. Come on, I'll show you. (the business was located in his house)

So while he had more expensive units in his shop he indicated he preferred the Phd, as it was the quietest phono pre he had ever experienced. And yes this thing is dead silent. Battery power design, gold plated pcb, metal case made from ~4 mm thick plate (very heavy but superb isolation), quality components, etc, overall make for a nice piece indeed. Hearing this very nice setup obviously added a lot of credibility. Finally he also managed to talk me into a nice set of silver Siltech interconnects to go with the unit.
