I am looking at updating the way I stream music. Currently have the wyrd Sonos playing music stored on a computer. Would I see sound improvement if I went with something like a Aurender? What do you guys recommend?

I have no experience with Aurender.

I use Roon + Mac mini + USB + DAC, and Roon + Roon endpoints. Extremely satisfied.

Are you attempting to compare a Sonos DAC to an Aurender DAC? I don’t own either one, but regardless of where music is stored, my understanding is that the Aurender DAC is in another (higher) league than the Sonos DAC.

I currently run my w4s through my 2500.

My path is:

NAS ==USB==> Music Server ==USB==> Wyred4Sound Recovery ==USB==> DAC ==XLR==>Pre-Amp

I have JRiver running on the music server. I remotely control that box with my laptop via the wireless network.

I have a fairly simple self contained set-up.

2010 MacBookPro with a 500 gb SSD and 8 gigs of RAM that's fed into a C2500 dac via USB or Toslink. CD's are ripped on a 2008 MacPro via dbpoweramp in the AIFF format.

With over 800 albums there's only about 40 gb left so a 1 tb ssd would have been a better choice. Easy to change out; a 1tb is around $250 at newegg.

Also using Amarra 4.0 luxe as the player. The revision of the last month or so had some initial glitches but now it's been flawless.

I do from time to time think of "upgrading" the server but overall a lot of bang for the buck!

I went with the Aurender A10 and have been VERY pleased. It is a one box solution that I am confident will meet my expectations for years to come.:yes:

I am at the end of a very successful demo of a Naim Uniti Core--I'll be purchasing it next week to replace my Mac Mini running Amarra. It is a significant step up from the Mac in terms of both sound quality and ease of use. IMHO, I expect it would also be a sharp step up from the set up you describe.

I also looked at an Aurender N100h. But I learned that transitioning a library from a Mac to an Aurender is a nightmare, so that didn't get very far.

Good luck!

For the moment very good results with : Synology -> Mac mini / Audivarna -> MC D150. I prefer separate elements as technology goes fast.
Here people seem to be very satisfied with Aurender ?

I went from sonos to the Aurender N100H and the difference was “UGE” as our president would say. The N100H lets you play hi resolution music including streaming MQA from Tidal. The sonus is strictly up to red book quality.
