4K comes to the living room system....

Since I made the upgrades to my bedroom system last year, with the surround conversion and the addition of a Sony XBR49X900E and Oppo UDB-203 4K UHD player, I've been really enjoying the incredible quality that 4K brings. I've known since then that it would only be a matter of time before I'd make the jump in my living room as well. I was in no screaming hurry as I do most of my movie watching these days in the bedroom, and I've had other things on my plate (such as cable upgrades in the living room). And, my Sony 55" XBR 1080p set in the living room that I've had for several years was still performing well. I also had an Oppo BDP-105D Blu Ray player that's seen only moderate use.

But Oppo's recent decision to stop US production has caused me to change my priorities a bit. I figured if I didn't get my player quick, I may not get one at all. So, within a day or so of the announcement, I ordered a UDB-205 directly from Oppo. Within 3 hours that evening, the model was out of stock.

Of course, once I'd made that decision, I knew I'd want the 4K TV as well. So, two days after the arrival of my UDP-205, I was on my way to Best Buy to pick up a new Sony XBR55X900E 4K TV.

To say that I'm pleased is an understatement. Both the Oppo UDP-205 and the new Sony TV are spectacular performers. They both fit right in with my scheme of things, and I'm 110% pleased.

I'm really finding myself absorbed in 4K material these days. It's really remarkable.....

I had been undecided as to whether I would keep or sell by Oppo BDP-105D that was in my living room. But after mulling it over for a few days I decided to keep it. That player now resides in my Florida Room system.

The Oppo BDP-103 that was in my Florida Room is now on duty in my office system.

There is already Oppo UDP-203 already in my bedroom system, so I now have Oppo players in all 4 systems. And that's a good place to be.

I believe my TV/Audio/Video journey is now complete, at least for a good while. The size limit for TV screens in my office and Florida Rooms is 32", and I don't think 4K sets are made under 40" or so. I've been very pleased with my two 32" Samsung TV's in those rooms. So, I won't have to buy any more video gear. Whew!

Dan....thanks. Oh and did I forget to mention, the dedicated 2 channel audio outputs on the UDP-205 sound superb. As they should, with the latest ESS DAcs, that are utilized in the UDP-205. I'm also very pleased with the analog outputs on the Sony XBR55X900E that feed my living room system. Both the video and audio performance of both of these units is top notch.

Congratulations on the upgrade, Pete.

You did a fine job of selecting quality components that I'm sure you will enjoy for a long time to come.

Pete, as always, I simply love your rooms and systems.
Very well done.
Thank you for sharing.

All this applause about 4K makes me wonder how long I will resist replacing our old beloved Pioneer plasmas... :scratch2:

I don't think you would gain a lot by having a 4K 32" screen though.

Bart...thanks! As to the 32" 4K screen size, I think you're right. The picture on my 32" Samsung(s) is just as clear and sharp as can be....
