Subwoofer recommendations Fathom V2, Fathom, E subs and CR-1
Hello, This is my first time in this JL Audio Forum and I am hoping you guys could chime in helping me out. In the past three months I have resurrected my hobby and bought Harbeth SHL5 plus and Accuphase integrated. Now I am planning to add a subwoofer. My choices are:
A. 2 fathom f112 then later add a CR-1 B. E 112 then add a CR-1 later C. 1 Fathom F112 V2 then add a second V2 down the road By the way my future listening room is approximately 15'x25' and I am more into listening female voices and acoustics. I am also a movie buff. |
Uhhh...
A. Obviously. Unless you can make C work like A now, or your second sub isn't too far down the road. |

I had a pair of SHL5+ in home for demo. They worked very well with my single f113, the combination was excellent. Congratulations on a great pair of speakers. I would choose option A.

There is no guarantee that 2 subs will sound better than one. In fact it may sound worse. I know its a common suggestion, and many have gone that route, but 1 sub might be perfectly fine, provided you can position it properly. 2 subs could be of benefit in problematic rooms however.
As a matter of interest, many recordings has frequencies below 100Hz in mono anyway. I would recommend one F112 V2, and leave it at that if it happens to integrate well, with great response in your room. |
If your listening preferences lean toward acoustic instruments and female voices, you probably do not have the need for two subs.
The crossover is always a good idea, and as nicoff said, you may find a very good deal on the f112 version 1 either new or pre-owned. |
Thank you guys. My dealer has 1 F112 demo and offered me more discount on a new f112 V1 since it the new v2 is out. Just out of curiosity is the new F112 V2 the same as a an old F112 V1 with CR-1 combo?
