My 2nd Silenzio Experience
Yesterday with the help of E installed my 2nd Silenzio, this one is affectionately called McWall.
It feeds into my MCD1100>C1000>MC2301's>Strads in my 2-Channel room. Check back later for all the photos. ;) |

I will say that Silenzio #2 was a slightly trickier install... and Ivan has been both very patient and an extremely good remote handler of all the things I had him do (he certainly got his stairmaster exercise with having him go up and down several times to deal with his router).
I can't wait to see the final pics, as he's been bragging how perfectly placed he has this on a stack in the back atop PPPs... :) |

Photos as promised...
http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439846577 With over 12 sources for this room, I have to label my inputs. ;) http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439846664 Small preview monitor (in catwalk) so I can see what Silenzio is doing http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439846792 Silenzio #2 sits on top of three PPP's which are on their side. There is an Elan fan unit on top (not needed for Silenzio; runs cool as a cucumber) previously put there to remove any heat generated by the PPP's http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439847104 VooDoo right angle power connector can be seen between the Silenzio and Gold Eclipse cable http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439847241 Close up of Silenzio's power button http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439847310 Slightly better angle to show Silenzio's placement http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439847380 Another side angle shot showing Silenzio's position in the catwalk http://www.audioaficionado.org/attac...1&d=1439847495 Final shot of the preview monitor, and some Shunyata gear, again in the catwalk |
Really really dumb question here but when using the USB to DAC connection, what USB port on the back of the Silenzio is used? There is more than one, right?
I totally understand need labels...oh YES I DO! :D |

Yes, I understand it has more than one, hence the question. Which one is used?
Have you had a chance to listen to the new setup yet? |

When I had the D100 as a DAC, it did not like the USB 3.0 output but generally worked fine in the USB 2.0. (Maybe the ASIO drivers?) With the K03 or K03x, they work fine with either output so I use the USB 3.0. Maybe Emile will add further color and tech to this. |
Ivan is using his BUC-1 to XLR as the MCD1100 hasn't had the mod done to it, and I strongly recommend against using class 1 USB.
Silenzio in its present iteration has 2 front/side USB2.0, 2 rear USB 2.0, and 4 rear USB 3.0 ports. Any/all can be used. For the majority of DACs I still prefer the 2.0 port(s) - they just tend to be more robust for audio. Some DACs use older receiver chips which, while "compatible" with USB3.0, will sometimes get angry and pitch a fit. |

Which USB is which? I just plugged my benchmark in and quite honestly not sure which one. Emile - are the usbs on my unit different?
Thx! |
In general... Black is 2.0 and blue is 3.0. based on your dac you should have no issue with either. Both sound the exact same.

Servers sound like a great idea, but I'm leery about the time it would take to put all my music on a computer so I could use the server versus just playing the CDs.

You are looking at it the wrong way, Gary.
You easily recoup the time by putting the spinning things into cold storage and never having to touch them again. Add in downloading new content and/or streaming capability and it is a no brainer. |

Gary, It may seem daunting at first but the time saved in the future pays off the upfront time to rip. You could also talk to Emile about an Archivio that can rip 6 CDs in 10 minutes or less. Now THAT is a productivity gain! Imagine ripping 100 CDs in an hour. Craig |
