Ref160 stereo?
Hmmm
Livio Cucuzza posted a video of it on Facebook, not sure if I can share here. He didn't confirm what it is, but it's pretty clear. Pun intended! |
Can you post please?

Wanted more info? Audio research put out a beautiful spin on their classic monoblock amp with a clear front panel, and a hologram-like gauge. It's rumored that they were going to carry this style into more products. The video is evidence that further adds speculation that the style will come to fruition. I love the look, some don't, and I don't know if it's anything more than a cosmetic upgrade. The only ARC dealer in my area can't afford to carry an entire line, so I'll never hear it unless I buy it first. Sorry I'm not well informed, I just like the topic and didn't want you ignored here. We don't have answers, yet. |
I have the REF75SE in the store using KT150s
And IMHO the Foundation VT80SE sounds better despite being a “lower range” model. The VT80SE shares a lot of the improvements on the REF160Ms including the new auto bias which Audio Research claimed they only implemented in the new series after they found it improved the sound. |
Wow. That was the complete opposite to my experience. The VT80se didn’t even come close to the Ref75Se.
|
VT80? Or VT80SE
|
VT80se. Are you sure the Ref75Se was run in?
It took me one track and I couldn’t listen to the 80Se after? |
I personally find it very hard to believe that the VT80SE can be better than a Ref75SE, but I haven't heard the VT80SE in a critical way.
The reason I find it hard to believe is, the Ref75SE is already punching way above it's price point. It can compete with lots of amps costing 15k or more. I think the VT80SE is only 7500, so how could it be competing with amps in that price range, and why would ARC even have both products if that's the case? hmmm |
From what I understand, the VT80SE uses a lot of the improvements from the REF160Ms including the auto-bias that is supposed to improve the SQ.

Maybe the hyperbole grew by the time he got to me :)

Any more update on this? Anyone from your trusted dealer?
|
Ref 150SE discontinued per dealer so a replacement on the way.
|
My dealer thinks late June.

It might be a tiny bit better than my GS150, but if I am upgrading I should be aiming for the monos. I can't easily afford those, so I'm back to being happy with my GS150.
What a crazy hobby. |

Very wise I had the GS150 and now the Ref160’s. There should be an upgrade factor in getting the Ref160S but it doesn’t seem worth it unless you can also jump to the advantages of monos with the Ref160Ms. |
I reckon the dual VU meters (being smaller) look more beautiful than the single large one in the mono
|
It looks awesome; I want one!
|
I gotta find a new hobby. Damn that thing is beautiful.
|
Ref160 stereo?
No doubt a good looking amp, and I’m fond of black
