A couple new gems from McIntosh announced today, that replace limited edition 70th anniversary components. The MC1502 amplifier is the replacement of the limited edition MC2152. The new amp has double the power of the storied MC275 amp but McIntosh managed to improve the signal to noise ratio in this single chassis to 112dB versus 105dB when using two MC275 amps to obtain 150 watts of power. In addition to the new MC1502, McIntosh released the C22 Mk V preamp as a direct replacement for the anniversary C70 preamp.

So the C70 is discontinued?

RaceCarDriver 08-06-2020 11:57 AM

The C22 is the exact same as the C70, different looks, cheaper.

The MC1502 has the exact same specs as the MC2152, different looks, a bit lighter because of the chassis. Cheaper.

The MC1502 looks odd too me. I can appreciate the looks of the MC75 and MC275. I don't dig the retro chrome chassis with the knobs. Including the 252 and 352 integrated and the big MC901. It looks odd to me.

Sounds like its last call for the C70 and MC2152 for anyone who is waiting.

I will hold out for a 60th anniversary MC75 hopefully and maybe a MC1501 mono would look a bit better if it was styled after the current MC275 and now discontinued MC75 IMO.

I kind of like the 1502 but I'm not a fan of the transformer covers and it's a bit large. I guess I'll have to see it in person before I really decide on it. As far as the C22 V, I'll keep my C22 IV over it, those rocker switches just look cheap to me and they got rid of the loudness switch which is a feature I use. I also don't like the multipurpose volume controls that they put on the current products, they don't have the solid feel of the volume control that is not multi-purposed.

You've already worked your way through most of the Mc lineup as is, might as well place your order now :)

I’m “Mc-less” at the moment. Lost my job due to COVID a while back.
Hoping to add these two pieces to my “Mc lineup.”

I will say, I HATE, HATE, HATE the bicycle basket tube cafe. Come on....seriously?!?!?

John, I think you would like the C22 III or IV better than this new C22 V and I’m with you on the tube cage shown on the MC1502, it’s seriously ugly. But does the cage really matter because we all remove them. I do like that they put all of the connections on one end though.

To me, removing two knobs found on the earlier C22’s makes the new C22 V look weird. If they kept them, there would be no need for the multipurpose volume and input knobs.
