I ordered the Sonica DAC last week. It is due to arrive Tuesday the 7th. I wanted a new DAC that wouldn't break the bank so I will find out soon about the sound quality.

And, any comments you could please share on their performance?

I am interested too. I have 3 Cary 306/200 CD players being used as DACs and this could be a nice upgrade, but I am not sure.

I'd love to hear some opinions on this? Looking at various DAC/streaming options.

Mines got about 36 hours of continuous play on it and it is promising. The initial top end glare is subsiding and so far it excels at the frequency extremes. It needs to fill out a bit in the mid-range. I've only used it so far with Tidal and the app lacks in sophistication to the Aries Lightning DS app but that can be remedied easily with updates. You would have to spend a lot more to do better as right out of the box it would better the comparable Bluesound model.

I got mine yesterday but only listened to it for about an hour. So far, I like it! I am using it USB to a McIntosh C50 (which I was using the built in USB DAC prior to the Oppo). Hope to have time over the weekend to do more with it..

Okay, I've had the Sonica DAC a few days now. These are my first impressions. I have only played music two ways thus far: spinning CDs and listening to a USB flashdrive with 24/96 files on it. The DAC thus far is sounding very good. I don't hear any glare that others mentioned. For $800 I don't see how you can go wrong. I have read many complaints online that the Sonica won't do this or that and lacks various features.

Oppo has said they will add things as time progresses. Many customers want it all for zero coin. If you want more features, shell out more money. Maybe using the Sonica to stream will bring out more opinions but I haven't got that far yet. I just wanted to get the device hooked up and running in order to get some initial impressions. This weekend will allow me more time to play with my system. Dave
