Mcintosh MX136 with Thorens TD124 turntable

I recently purchased A Thorens TD124 turntable. According to the manual my MX136 has a moving magnet phono stage. How good is the phono stage in the MX136 and what cartridge should I use on the thorens? Opinions welcome.

Do you have a scope? If so you could test the outputs and see out clean they are

I had a MX135 and thought the phono stage was good, but not as good as my C2300. For me, the Ortofon 2M Black is a great MM cart. I've used it on my current VPI and a TD125.
