Many Thanks to Tom (W9TR)

I wanted to give a public shout out to Tom for his assistance today.

I've been more than a bit perplexed with the setup menu on my new-to-me McIntosh MX151. The further I went into the setup process the more confused, and exasperated, I became.

Apparently some of that exasperation - and some of my desperation - bled through in a post I put up yesterday. No real excuse for being a whiny little ***** except that I haven't had a chance to listen to my system since I packed it up on 2/10/2020 in preparation for our move to Arizona. On top of all that I had never heard the MX151 in my system which was doubly exasperating.

Tom sent me a PM saying he'd be willing to talk on the phone and walk me through some of the basic setups.

And that is exactly what he did!

After running through some of the setup menu options with him over the phone I was finally able to 1) name and address inputs, 2) select the types of sound processing I wanted for each input, 3) understand what the room correction feature does and, (this was on my own) 4) I managed to assign 12V triggers to each component I wanted On or Off.

I still have a lot to learn and I do have more setup to do. Tom got me off the sissy tuffet and back to work on system setup with a good plan and a clear view to the end of it all.

In my view Tom is the epitome of a valued AA member who is willing to take the time to assist his fellow forum mates.

Thanks, Tom!

It’s great to see posts like this. The willingness to help each other out is one of the things that makes AA so great.

That's a cool story, and it reflects what I like about AA: It's more of a community than a forum. The forum is just the more obvious part of it.

Way to go, Tom. You set a good example for all of us.

Michael,
Happy to help out!

My usual thing is to install a piece of new gear and dick with it until it is setup. Can't do that with the MX 151. Ya gotta have a plan.

Thanks for the kudos, and happy listening. This is no time to be without tunes!

Nicely done Tom. Michael, don’t be so hard on yourself.
