Is HF linearity as important as all that?

To some degree I’m sure it is, but it seems to be one of the things Pass amps don’t do “phenomenally well”. In the few reviews of Pass amps containing measurements, it’s seen as not “being as good as” other contemporary amps. It’s seen again and pointed out in the INT-25 review - but does it matter?

My friend has been living with a X250.5 for years and IME the high frequencies I hear out of his system are sublime. Kent English did say one of the areas they improved in the .8 is linearity - at both low and high frequencies. I find no problem with my 260.8’s. So has anyone felt this is an area that is somehow holding back the potential of Nelson’s amps? I don’t.

Linearity? In what domain?

From what I can recall, it seems to be associated with intermodulation products when the amps are driven with that 19 / 20 KHz mix.

OK, that may be what evokes it but I am still curious about what you mean by linearity. Is it described in frequency response, dynamic response or is it the intermodulation itself?

I'm honestly not sure, Kal. :confused-22: I was hoping someone like you could help me understand. ;):) I've just run across comments about "linearity" with Pass amps, and Kent tells me this is something that's been improved with the .8 series, and I'm not sure what that may translate itself into when listening (or does it really, when all's said and done?). IOW, is it all much ado about nothing?

tony.ptony.......You may find this interesting reading. The discussion may help shed light on your topic.
