MS300/MS750 Golden CD?

To be blunt - is there a way of getting a copy of this?
Since this product - which was/is very expensive and sounds like prone to hard drive issues (I have already replaced the CD/RW in mine) - has already been discontinued and support is limited, I am concerned about have a very expensive 'brick' if something ever goes wrong

I asked around, but the best answer is to use Panurgy for repairs. There is an un official disc out there, but not recommended.

I think Panurgy is in New Jersey, not VT.

I haven't heard of issues with the hard drive.

must of searched for a different Panurgy - just a little frustrated about a 2 year/old product being abandoned by not only the manufacturer, but also the company that served as the foundation for the system - and to customer can not even get access to the operating system/interface? Coming from a company that prides' itself on products that last forever..... I dont see this hanging in there as a cornerstone to my digital music system for much longer - and even the used market (unlike every other Mc thing) is bottoming out

Am I missing something here?

Can you describe the problem you're having?
Lots of folks still have MS300 or 750's that work fine. Sure they won't run forever. Hard drives never do. I purchased a hard drive replacement a couple of years ago, and I recently purchased a CD ROM drive for repair parts.
Service is provided by Pangury because they closed Escient down. I found this website. Welcome to Panurgy - Managed IT and Computer Services For Your Business
Regarding the used market prices, in my mind this is like a PC, and they don't retain their value either.

Michael.......The MS750 was produce by McIntosh from 2007 to 2010. I don't know what you mean by "it's already been discontinued." It has not been in the McIntosh lineup for three years. Support for the MS300 (produced from 2004 to 2007) and MS750 was provided by Escient from the very beginning. When Escient closed their doors support was transfered to Panurgy in New Jersey. Support is not limited. Panurgy still repairs McIntosh music servers.

The MS300 and MS750 are no more prone to hard drive issues than any other hard drive based products. Hard drives fail. That's not news. It is not a case of if, it's a case of when. That's why everyone who uses a hard drive is encouraged to back-up their data. There have been some reported issues with a power supply problem that will cause the MSxxx to misbehave, but the problem is easily repaired.

McIntosh does pride itself on products that last a long time. Their products are as noteworthy for longevity as any audio company still in business. None the less, some products with moving parts, i.e. CD transports and hard drives, do fail. McIntosh doesn't manufacture transports or hard drives, so like most other audio manufacturers they rely on other manufacturers as vendors for these parts. If these parts should fail it is certainly not because McIntosh failed a customer by design.

I'm not sure who you asked, but the unofficial disk does work and I used one to upgrade my MS300 to an MS750.

If you can someone who can provide you the disc, pull out the hard drive and replace it with a new one and then try the disc. If it works great, if not you are out the cost of a hard drive and your MS300 still works. I don't have the model number of the 750GB hard drive that will work, but it probably can be found here or on the "other site".

The MS300 was based on an Escient design with some internal upgrades from McIntosh. Escient was a company that was acquired by D&M (who also owned McIntosh Labs). Escient were early to the music (and video I think) server game. After being acquired they continued to be a standalone company putting out and supporting their products. McIntosh initially released the MS300 and later took the same design and changed the hard drive to a 750GB unit. As far as I know no other changes were made. At some point the Escient name disappeared, but they continued to service the MS300 and MS750 and their own. My MS300 had a known digital dropout issue that was repaired for free by Escient even though I was not the original owner. Some time later Escient completely disappeared and Panurgy took over support.

You might consider looking at other music servers as the MS300 and MS750 are both outdated and as others have said no longer supported by McIntosh. There are many other choices out there. They don't have the McIntosh look, but most are current products that are supported.

If you are set on keeping it you should pick up a backup CDROM and hard disk as both of these are IDE, which is all but dead.

In case you are wondering, I sold my copy of the unofficial disc with the MS300.
