Rodney From Sunny South Africa
As the title says ,, tho here in Cape town we are having a drought so cloudy skies are welcome..Im late 50s , semi retired but still own a business that uses lasers and CnC machines to make stuff.
My listening is done in a fully treated and dedicated 8m x 6m x 2.5m room.. it's also very soundproof to the rest of the house and I can indulge myself in what I like.. turning the wick up I have catholic taste in music..so my system has to be able to handle anything thrown at it .. I love deep tight visceral bass, room filling scale , unrestrained dynamics, treble purity and lack of distortion.. but mostly I want the playback to connect with me on an emotional level My system is simple Squeezebox touch into 2x Devialet D Premiers in monoblock mode and then into my speakers.. speaker wire is Munsdorf silver ribbon..the Devialets are all in one things so you dont need much else in terms of cabling Re the speakers , Took a leap of faith and have just upgraded from a set of Vivid Giya g1's to their new flagship.. the G1 spirits, the leap was rewarded. |
Welcome!!!

Rodney... Welcome to AA!

Rodney.......Welcome to Audio Aficionado.
With a system like that and a well thought out room to enjoy it in you will fit right in here. |
Rodney - Welcome to AA! when you get a minute, post some pics of the Vivids! They're on my shortlist when the time comes to upgrade.

Rodney, welcome to AA. Wow, one of best rooms here in AA. Clean setup.
|
Hello Rodney,
Welcome to AA ! You have a superb room and system. I am too a Squeezebox lover. Never felt any desire to upgrade it except for a 12 V linear power supply. Do you use one or the stock little transfo ? |
Jerome , I too love the Squeezeboxen , works well with ROON
I actually tried a few power supplies for the Squeezebox , in fact I ABed them , in that I set up 2 SBT's , one with OEM power supply and one with aftermarket. No difference , if anything I thought the aftermarket supplies werent as good as the stock ones .. i just went back to stock. However I have heard of folk finding the aftermarket supplies better when using the SBT in analog mode , I use it in the digital domain. |
Great to have you here on board Rodney!
You have a terrific system. The room is gorgeous. If I ever upgrade, the Spirit (Mark II?! :D) is candidate number one. |
Bart . I'm of the opinion that the room is one of the most important components..it's what mangles the sound before it hits your ears. Money and time spent on treating it is well spent.
My room is entirely clad with a special acoustic panel that is slotted and pierced .. all on battens with rockwool between the panel and the wall..a small airgap The panels do a little diffusion and absorbtion the ceiling has the same in the void , but for diffusion I use a faux Rockwall .. not the ideal diffusers but they work in every corner I have both tube and flat bass traps .. tube deep into corner and flat traps straddling them.. behind my listening chair I have 2 absorbtion panels Carpets on floors , floors are that fake wood , but have acoustic underlay All windows barring 1 were replaced with glass bricks Dedicated pure sine wave inverter , 5kw , fed by solar charged batteries supply ultra clean power (here in SA , brownouts and surges is common No isolation or any serious tweaks .. my system sits on a coffee table as the rack My listening chair is an ergonomic office chair from ergohuman , the Nefil .. tried about 7 listening chairs before I got the ideal one The double doors to my room are soundproof .. the room is as well .. I can play as loud as I like..my bass has actually cracked the ceiling Here are some pics of the room etc .. some items have shuffled around as the pics werent all taken at the same time . My stack https://scontent.fjnb7-1.fna.fbcdn.n...01&oe=597975D2 My Rack https://scontent.fjnb7-1.fna.fbcdn.n...0c&oe=5976961C https://scontent.fjnb7-1.fna.fbcdn.n...00&oe=598CFEA1 https://scontent.fjnb7-1.fna.fbcdn.n...6f&oe=598E321A https://scontent.fjnb7-1.fna.fbcdn.n...82&oe=59750D12 https://scontent.fjnb7-1.fna.fbcdn.n...e0&oe=59C28C22 https://scontent.fjnb7-1.fna.fbcdn.n...b9&oe=598B6735 |
Just... excellent. The speakers look like something out of a Pedro Almodóvar creation...
|
I will live inside that room 24/7 x 365 for infinite years and never come out.
|
Wow, nice room! I like the 70 1/2 split bumper camaro pic :)
|
Yeh .. I had a hot 454 in that with a 350hp NOS fogger system controlled by a DR jacobs..low 10's on our local dragstrip.. streetable..sort of .. PS I have far less hair these days ...
Car was sold and returned to stock .. I also had a stock 67 Rs/SS and a 69 which was butchered entirely for drags , low 7 sec , blown injected big block.. and finally a 95 z28 |
Rodney, that is one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever seen on this site. Welcome to AA!!

Thanks Rodney, Very interesting. I use the SB in digital only and found the linear psu to be better but I did not make a test as good as you did ! |
