K-03?
 

I am quite the idiot when it comes to streaming and computer audio. I do like streaming Pandora through my K-03, the message on my K-03 says COAX 44.1 (see attached picture). I have Pandora going from my Oppo 103 to my K-03 via the COAX connection. Does this mean I am streaming at CD quality or something else? I do like the way it sounds better than Tidal streaming which I cancelled. I also prefer Pandora through the Oppo more than through my iPad USB with WW Platinum Starlight cables. Does this make any sense? Thanks for any info.

Sorry Paul but 'No'. MP3s, which is all I think Pandora streams, are also sent at 44.1. Thus the K03 will show 44.1 for the sampling frequency.

It has to do with Bit rates, Bit depths, sampling frequencies and lossless versus Lossy files etc. Others can explain it better than I but an MP3 is lossy. At best up to about 40 to 50% of the data in the same CD produced lossless FLAC file.

MP3/Lossy = Lousy ;)

Craig, thanks that makes sense. I am surprised that Pandora sounds better to me than Tidal in MQA quality going through my MacBook (not iPad). My MacBook must not be too good. I don't have any services on it.

Paul.......When subscribing to Tidal was it at the HiFi level subscription? At that level with Tidal the stream is 16Bit/44.1kHz CD quality.

Dan, my Tidal subscription was at the CD level quality and I could see the Masters recordings and listen to them through my MacBook via USB to my K-03. The same songs sounded better to me through my Oppo 103 via Coax to my K-03 for some reason, perhaps since I am not using JRiver or some other service. I did find with Tidal that I do not like to build play lists or search for songs. I actually like the way Pandora is set and forget. It just plays my type of music. I do still like vinyl best or just drop in a CD.
