Vivid G3 Giya's in Bound
I have a pair of Vivid G3 Giya's in Bound for demo purposes prior to taking on the line.
Stay tuned for photos, and listening impressions. :music: |
Ivan, looking forward to your pictures and impressions!
|
Wow, Vivid, the shape...
|
Heard the Giyas at Bart's place in Belgium. Excellent transducers.
|
Carlos, thank you.
Worthy addition to your already fabulous systems Ivan. |
Leaving us in suspense on your color choice? I like suspense!
|
Coool... I look forward to your thoughts, Ivan!

If the G3s are for demo dolphins ........porpoises.......purposes........If they are loaners then they will not be in the colour of choice. :-)
I also look forward to hearing how they work. Can i suggest trying these speakers with a few different partnering components if there are options available. In my own B1 setup i have just introduced a Nordost Valhalla 2 interconnect into my otherwise Valhalla 1 wired system. Despite hesitating to buy this cable ( for financial reasons, although it was second hand which helped) it does make a significant impact on the character of the sound. I have heard the B1 demoed with Luxman gear and it had that super detailed but not particularly full bodied sound, then with my Valhalla and CJ valve amps it was slightly cold and hard. Introducing the V2 has given the sound a different character again, which is more warm and full bodied. You would almost think its three different speakers. While i am sure that the OP has enough experience to have this on his radar, its still well worth reminding yourself of this. I have seen the G3 discounted because it was not singing it tune with one particular setup. If you only have one setup then compatibility is critical, if you have options then its worth trying out those options. PS So, how does Valhalla 2 get on with my system. I like Beth Orton's particular style and i have a copy of her album "Comfort of Strangers" which had a bonus disc of simply recorded tracks, including a version of the title track titled Comfort of Strangers #9. This track always had an immediacy, but the lack of grain and stress in vocals and simple instrumentation makes it an absolute joy for this particular fan, particularly as its my own personal taste in music rather than some special audiophile recording. |
G3 Giya's are inbound... :)

Ivan - can't wait to see them in your demo space.....when the time comes the Giyas may be the ones for me! Which system are you going to pair them with if you've decided yet??

Also visually, it will pair nicely. I'm sure you'll take better pictures, and your system will look way cleaner, but this is how an other system looked: http://my-hiend.com/wp/wp-content/up...ss-660x330.jpg |

What color did you decide upon? |
Not with Luxman Please
Last year, Onahighernote demo room at the Newport show with Luxman (think they are B-1000F) and Vivid (may be G1) makes me want to take a quick exit. Super Extended Highs is unbearable on the ears. Thankfully, it gets better as the guy changed the source and spins the tape on the tape project RTR. Recalling the experience still sending chills down the spines and hearing is what I value more than the brand or gears. My ears ring for the next two days after the show. :D
Hope the G3 is tamed at the High Frequency notes. :scratch2: Good Luck Ivan! |

It could be a really bad combo. As a really Big Luxman fan, I coveted these B-1000F for a very long time and a listening session was a great opportunity. But the combo is too bright. I am sure it's partly due to the super flat frequency response from the amps and extended frequency response with Vivid. Well, too much of a good thing may turns out bad. I think Vivid requires careful matching and may do well with some Tube Amps (albeit SET). Throw in a few ultra sharp sounding I/C in less than ideal room, it's a deal breaker for me. But by all means, the synergy is the paramount above any gear or brands. I don't think Luxman sold a lot at the show last year. And did I say I am a Big Lux Fan? |

I'm not sure why you found them so bright but I would be much quicker to blame the source or the room before either component. Vivids are, if nothing else, ruthless disclosers of issues elsewhere in the chain. |
Just as a point of clarity, 'On a Higher Note' is no longer distributing Luxman gear. Luxman recently assumed their own direct distribution in the US market.

I'm running my B1's with a Luxman M800-A and it's not harsh or bright at all. The sound is so smooth and warm. I would say it's most likely a bad recording with highs bumped up.
|
No harshness at all for years with a Mark Levinson No. 334 and now with a pair of Ayre MX-R Twenties.
|
No harshness here either, first with Burmester, and now with the terrific Halgorythmes. :music:
|
Absolutely no harshness either, using Denon, Burmester, Esoteric and now Devialet.
|
Thanks guys! Good to know that Vivid is not harsh sounding in your own systems / rooms. I will once again try to demo it in the upcoming newport show.
It may be a really bumped up highs on the digital source. It got better once the master tape spins on the RTR. |
Ivan, Do you have these hooked up yet?
