Potential Stradivari owner!

Hi Folks,

Just when I thought I was done with a super optimised and sublime system, along comes a temptation. I am about to pull the trigger on Violin Red Stradivari's. The speakers were manufactured in 2013

I would have to sell some things to fund the acquisition

I am a bit nervous. What do you think? :D

bart 08-06-2016 07:30 AM

Haha Douglas, Audiophilia Nervosa!!
A most dangerous but pleasant disease.
It is incurable, so just succumb...

By the way, Stradivaris are gorgeous speakers: the looks, the sound.

doguniverse 08-06-2016 07:42 AM

Lucky you. Go for it!

Bart....Tell me about it! I was just telling a friend last week that I am done!

I cannot believe the scale of these speakers. I auditioned them on an Audio Research 75SE, which is not ideal, but I could not believe the scale of these speakers. Performers were literally lifesize and vocals were just sublime. I can see what the fuss is about, it's ;like love at first sight.

I think I going to get them

crwilli 08-06-2016 08:23 AM

Come on in Douglas! The water's fine.

Be prepared to spend time dialing them in. While they will sound good pretty quickly, they will really reward the patience to dial them in.

Crwilli....I would appreciate tips on Toe-in and rake. It seems that sharp toe-in such as pointing them directly at the listener is the norm, but not sure about rake. I hope the bass properly in my room

I think toe-in will be a function of your specific room and perhaps your listening tastes.

By the way, I have been stumbling my way through the Sumiko Masters Speaker setup process which I would recommend you try. I followed it over the course of many months and each time, found better sound and twice, 'aha' moments.

I would definitely try the master speaker setup process. It will probably be a 2-week wait should I decide to buy the Strads. But yea I think my mind is made up......cannot wait

Antonmb 08-06-2016 10:08 AM

Excellent, go for it. The Strads are gorgeous speakers, I can't imagine you regretting it.

joey_v 08-06-2016 01:03 PM

I've been there and bought the Strads...
You will enjoy them!

Great speakers

Douglas 08-06-2016 01:26 PM

Thank you Joey_v and Tony. This is just the encouragement that I need:music:

I think the Strads should work well in my room since the speakers will be positioned on the long wall with not a side wall in sight.

PMCH 08-06-2016 06:08 PM

Douglas, like you, I thought I was done with speaker choices but after my purchase of the Strads I am really done. They are speakers for life.

1KW 08-07-2016 10:35 AM

To me these speakers represent the best sounding and best looking 2 channel speaker in its price range

Paul, I know the Strads will do emotion, scale, amazing vocals and deep bass.

I am hoping it can also do justice to music like, Stevie Ray Vaughan's Tin pan Alley, Dire Straight's Love over gold, and a big scale live albums such as Chris Botti's Live in Boston, and Natalie Merchant Live in New York as well as Johhny Lee Hooker best of Friends and anything by Sade ....If the Strats are that versatile then I am there!

The Lost Bears 08-07-2016 03:21 PM

The Stradivari are mighty fine speakers. I am jealous. I sit hear listening to my Elipsa SEs thinking if only.

Speakers of this caliber are worth a road trip! I would not trust them to a shipper even in the original boxes. I would want to be there every step of the way.

Douglas.......Not to burst your romantic interlude bubble but as the years go by I believe the Stradivari's will maintain their youthful appearance better than Brigitte.

Masterlu 08-07-2016 11:46 PM

My Strads have that Italian Exotic feel and sound.

Playful, but mean business.

Bill.......I hear you. I am one of them. When I completed setting up his Clearaudio Innovation Wood turntable and tonearm, Ivan left me with the remote control and the room for the better part of an hour. That was great fun.

For best performance I undressed the Strads. . :naughty:

Crwilli....Thank you very much. I am beyond excited, but still a bit apprehensive as the YG's are so very good. But the deed is done, I paid the first tranche.

The irony is that my room will be more open despite the bulk of the Strads because losing the sub will free up a lot of space in my lounge.

Douglas 08-11-2016 01:28 PM

I should take delivery of the Strads next weekend if all goes according to plan (no turning back anymore). I cannot wait.
