"The Upgrade Company" for McIntosh

Has anybody heard of them and is there really an upgrade for the newer Mac amps and preamps as they're claiming? Here's the site: upgradecompany.com

I've read about people who've had upgrades to units like Onkyo processors. Their feedback was very positive.
However, I'd be a whole lot more dubious about letting them anywhere near a piece of Mc kit, for one thing, might well lower it's value.

I have to agree... I know I wouldn't want anyone other than the OEM factory inside any of my audio units.

I got my old PS Audio PerfectWave DAC modified by him with very good sound results. I sold it and got a Bricasti M1. A much better machine all around.

The Upgrade Company said they usually modified and upgrade the shielding of the Mac chassis as lots of RF going in and out of the unit plus some replacement of the original caps to a higher quality ones. According to them, they guarantee their mod for five years.

Oh boy, they guarantee some capacitors and shielding for five years. :laughin:

It is my understanding that McIntosh factory will not make any repairs on McIntosh components modified by this company or sell them any McIntosh parts.

There is no way I would let these folks "upgrade" my McIntosh gear. No way!

I think one would have to be nuts to do such a thing with high end expensive mcintosh components....lower level equipment perhaps but not top of the lien stuff

There are some guys that modify their Ferrari's and other guys don't do a thing. There is a market for everything.

The MCD201 I had was "upgraded" by them. Had nothing to do with why I purchased it, that was because it was a great deal. Anyway, I opened it up and this is what was inside.

Not pictured is the MCD's top cover that had some Dynamat installed. Looking at the materials and the installation time their fee's seem overly high. Did it sound better than a "stock" 201? I could tell no difference in my system.

If you look on other forums, and maybe even research the company here, there is a lot of very ambivalent feeling (a lot very negative) about this company. And I know a number of manufacturers -- not just McIntosh -- that will void the warranty on any mod.
