Vivaldi stack recycling time!

dCS has just announced the release of Vivaldi 2.0.

New, updated Vivaldi from dCS!

"Major" (???) improvements are reported. Does that mean the version 1.0 is no longer listenable?

MSRP on the new stack is $114,996.

To be able to hear the difference you will need incredible speakers, pre and amplifiers.... This is a whole different level. Wonder how many the sell a year.......?

My dealer tells me that it's mostly a software update save for one piece of optional hardware - a network card for the upsampler to stream spotify, Tidal etc.

Only piece of software available now is for the DAC. Others including the hardware card will become available after Munich.

I just received the Version 2.0 software. Hope to install in my DAC this weekend. I also have an amp upgrade to install so unfortunately I will not be able to distinguish what is causing any improvement. Good problem to have.

Cincy,

My dealer recommends Map 1 filter 5. Told me I won't regret to give it a try.

DSD filter 5 or PCM filter 5?

I have my up sampler convert to DSD so am curious.

I have listened to all 3 mappers.

MAP 1 has a very analog and smooth sound, very much like vintage tube gear but without its drawback. Resolution is enhanced. There is a lot more details.

MAP 2 is like to original 1.2 firmware, detailed and sharp image. In some systems, it can sound harsh and too HiFi.

MAP 3 is between MAP1 and MAP 2. If you find MAP 1 a little too lay back and soft, this is the MAP you need.

At present, I use MAP3. It has the best of both worlds.

Well I also upsample to DSD & I agree Map 1 is what TLi described

I have the full stack and have the upsampler convert to DSD. Been using Map 1 Filter 5 at the DAC, and am thoroughly impressed with the update - it's got such a nice, natural sound. I haven't yet tried Map 3...but am quite happy with the DAC update. The transport and upsampler update are apparently forthcoming.

I'll have to admit I don't play around with the filters as much as I should - but I played a few things last night using Map 1 Filter 5, and couldn't get up from my listening chair - impressed with the upgrade. I need to read the updated DAC manual I guess, to catch all the information.
