Face Plate Change

Has anyone bothered to change face plates on an AR piece? I have a Ref 5 SE in silver/natural that I'd like to make black. I am assuming that the actual swap is easy. Unfortunately, the cost is crazy - about $800. Not only do I need the face plate but I also need the buttons, knobs and handles.

I guess I can try to sell the old stuff to offset some of the cost.

I have changed front plate for CD7 couple of times. It's pretty easy just simple hex tools and half an hour work. Remember to unplug first :D

easy but costly :)
I wanted to order metal top to replace acrylic top for my Ref40, it was 200$ each then.
So I didn't bother.
Also a metal remote would cost me $200 too, so I live with the plastic one.
