Shopping list for 20amp circuit runs
OK so next weekend I'm having the 20 amp circuits installed along with some additional work. I've asked the electrician for a parts list so I can have what he needs to get the jobs done. So my question is should I have the two 20 amp plugs in one box or is there an advantage to keeping them apart. The wall the plugs will be on is short and has a window in the center so physical placement will be somewhat limited.

Here I'm putting them into one box, separate runs 12ga., 20 amp breakers
|
No reason not to keep them together in a double gang box.

Don.......It is best to keep the two circuits totally separate for safety purposes. This way you avoid one circuit remaining energized while the other circuit is tripped or turned off. I would install each dedicated receptacle in its own single gang box. It is not difficult to install two single gang junction boxes between the same two wall studs.

Well I was poking around the garage and I already have two blue single gang boxes so that's the way I'll go.

I thought 30 amp breakers required at least 10 gauge wire and a special NEMA outlet receptacle. |
Code is 10 gauge for 30 amp circuits.

2 - 30amp single pole Murray (BR) breakers (all black). 1 - 250' roll of 10-2 romex nm w/ ground. 1 - 250' roll of 14-2 romex nm w/ground. 1 - single weatherproof outdoor box w/gfci receptacle and cover. 2 - commercial/industrial grade 20amp receptacles. 2 - Fan rated fan braces w/box. 7- recessed lighting fixtures of your choice. And either one double gang blue remodel plastic box and double cover or 2 single gang blue plastic remodel boxes with covers for your 20 amp receptacles. I'm having a little more than just the two circuits added as you can see from my shopping list. |
This is something I thought about replying with before but didn't want to come across as a smart-ass so didn't. Once again I've read your thread Don & the same thought has crossed my mind with no variant on aforementioned comments, just a thought. Has your listening room/area been treated for sound? The thought process behind this is simply we try to cover all bases but at what point are we at & is it to suffice?
