My vintage system, finally up and running...

Well, this has been a long time coming and a work in progress... but I finally have a full (well almost) vintage system

The Scott 299 was sent back east to Terry DeWict for a full tune up and came back with a dented chassis and broken fuse holder. (NO fault of Terry's) I got sidelined from the project and the little amp sat on a shelf in the back room for 6 months. I finally found someone to fix the fuse holder and now its up and running.

Terry did a great job and the unit sounds really great!

The little HH Scott is powering some vintage Altec Co-Axial Drivers in the Barzilay cabinets.

My only source is a "not so vintage" LINN Axis TT with a LINN Adikt pick up. Still looking for a new, pristine Garrad 301... or Thornes 124

I tried a couple of different CDP's, and not only did they not sound "right" they just upset the look of the old cabinet and the old amp.

I am really enjoying the sound of the old tube gear with the Altec speakers. Sounds especially great on the older recordings.

Couple of photos:

Nice!! The speakers and matching equipment cabinet are gorgeous. I like the vintage Scott gear, I have a soft spot for vintage Fisher gear as well.

Nice job! I have a fascination for the furniture appeal that existed back in "the day".

Stephen.......Your vintage system is looking fantastic. The Barzilay cabinet is beautiful. It's a good thing that the Altec duplex speakers in those cabinets are independent of the main cabinet, otherwise the turntable would never sound right. Some of the Barzilay cabinet designs were like that. Congratulations on breathing new life into a gorgeous vintage system.

Stephen,

This is a beautiful system. I've always been soft hearted toward the Scott and Altec sound. The cabinet is the perfect touch for a vintage system along with the 'table.

Congrats on a job well done!

Dave

Stephen.......No one who really knew what an old Barzilay system sounded like would believe how good you've managed to make your's sound. I'd love to hear it.

So True.... amazing what an 1/8 of an inch will do...

No pun intended.

I once had them pushed all together... you wouldn't believe the difference... or.. maybe you would...

Stephen.......How does the Linn turntable sound? Do you have it sitting in the cabinet in its Linn plinth?
