VuDu HDX
 

We've been using VuDu in our home theater and am happy to report very positive results. We have a dedicated theater with a 106" dia 16:9 screen and a JVC RS-50 LCoS projector. My source is the outstanding Oppo BDP95.

We have been using the VuDu HDX option, which is 1080p24 with DD 5.1 audio, 7.1 on some titles, but only have a 5.1 system.

First, Blu-Ray is superior to VUDU streaming because of its bitrate. But on our system I cannot tell much difference, if any at all. The quality is excellent, even with detailed, slow pans. I do see some moire' effects, but only seldomly. The DD Plus on VUDU is very good.

Yes there is no Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio, but I get that on the rare occasion We buy a Blu Ray disc.

We rarely watch movies more than once, so for us, the convenience and quality of this top notch VOD service are a winning combination.

Tom, a buddy of mine has VuDu and loves it.

If your primary need is watching movies, I think VuDu is the best streaming option. So far, our experience has been very solid. The quality is very good, much better than Netflix, HuLu, Amazon, or Apple TV.

I have 2 of the Vudu boxes which have 1TB hard drives. I agree that Vudu leads in the movie streaming category. Best interface, great selection and great quality. Blu-ray is still well ahead in quality but for the 80% of movies I rent....vudu gets used for more than half of them. All oppo owners can get acess to vudu with the widget included with the 93/95. I do use Roku for kids to access the Amazon Prime free video collection and sometimes Apple has content vudu doesn't. Cable VOD is the worst option in terms of quality

Not to mention that you can take your disc to walmart and have them load it into the cloud. OR DIY at home!
