28B SST 2 vs 7B SST 2 vs 7B SST
 

Are these amps sonically similar ?

I understand the power differences between the two but how do they differ sonically? The 28 SST 2 gets great reviews but I haven't seen anything on the 7B SST 2.

I have the 7B SST now. How does the 7B SST 2 differ sonically?

The 28s and 7B squared amps do have similarities, a house sound if that's what you want to call it.....however you must take in account how the speaker load is intereacting with the amp.....use a speaker that's easy to drive and one may find the amps have more in common sound wise but use a speaker that's a more difficult load and you will find greater differences sound wise.....I haven't spent much time with your current 7BSST only the Squared line of amps......you may want to visit audiocircles, that's where most of the bryston owners hang out.....

Bryston does not build better/best products so all of the amplifiers are exactly the same circuitry just the power supply and the number of output devices change based on power needed. So think of it like an engine in a car - a 4 cylinder vs a 6 vs an 8. The engine quality is the same it just depends on how fast you want to go.

So the size of your room the type of speaker chosen and the levels you listen at will determine which amplifier is the most appropriate.

Hmmmm....just reread this review. Read it when it first came out also. Pretty unfair IMO. Everything he dislikes is pretty much intangible nuance. To tarnish the Bryston rep over intangible nuance seems kind of crappy to me.

And Volks, do you have an axe to grind? If you scour the internet that's about the only review that you can find that's not a rave for Bryston gear.

It seems to be a common occurrence with Volks and Bryston.....he seems to bring it up here and other places when opprotunity arrises. Its fine that you found your holy grail with Mcintosh, I'm happy for you....why continue with the cheap shots? its fine you moved away from one brand to another, I did the same thing a year ago....I moved away from Mcintosh and went with Bryston gear, so what its my money and my ears!!!....as I said in another thread you like Ford and I like Chevy....we both are happy! just leave it at that.

Volks....I mean no disrespect to you or anyone else, were all in this great hobby chasing the same thing.....Less money in our bank accounts :D

Here is a good review of the 7Bsst/2 done by me. Short and sweet so not to take up to much time but it pretty much sums up the amp.

The new 7Bs are 2012. They are not 1985, 1995 or 2005 amps. They represent a new age of amp that shows off what powering the source is all about. A 1995 amp will bandaid the horrible mainstream playback of digital.

We have great digital sources available now and we don't need color or a bandaid approach to feel like we havn't been ripped off.
