Classic Stereo: 300wpc, $12,000

I'm surprised there hasn't been more traffic here about Dan's new stereo amp, the Classic Stereo.

Designed to bring more people to the D'Agostino brand, it weighs 108 lbs., offers 300 wpc into 8 ohms, 500 wpc into 4 ohms, offers "most" of the sound of the Momentum, and most importantly will retail for a MSRP of just $12,000. Shipping now.

Even though the Classic Stereo is currently the most affordable amplifier we build, it’s built to exactly the same standards as our top-of-the-line Momentum series amplifiers. The core circuit design is the same. Like the Momentum series amps, the Classic Stereo uses through-hole construction, which means that the leads on the transistors, resistors, capacitors and other components extend all the way through the circuit board and are soldered underneath. This is the way we used to do it before surface-mount construction was invented. Through-hole construction is much more expensive than surface-mount, but it results in better electrical connections, superior reliability and better sound quality.

Saw one at Norman Audio in Singapore. I hope to hear it while I am here.

I haven't heard this amp yet but one spec that stands out is the S/N of only 80dB, while the Momentum series amps are rated at 105dB. That's quite a big difference.

Looks great, that's the first time I've seen this amplifier, you can really see the Krell DNA in this one! Love it.

Bill.......You said it best, "Designed to bring more people to the D'Agostino brand."

The Camero version of a Corvette. It's almost a Corvette.

I agree; a 80 dB S/N ratio seems kind of low, but for example many amps just list something like ">80 dB."

seen one up close; does look good.
just looks like something he would have built in the 90's.
looking forward to hearing it one day.

It does look like an old Krell. Same here, and the price is right.

3 effective bipolar output transistors pr side = 45A output current.

I'm just not as excited as I was before; I've heard it before and it sounds good, but that 80 dB dynamic range is just a deal killer for me when all the competition these days is 95 dB or better. :(
