Not your average 'ash tray'

Phase I of my mega Ash Tray project is complete...............

I suspect most can tell by the picture what it is but probably have no clue as to what it is out of !

It is a piston from an Alco Locomotive, '244' prime mover..........anyways the first phase was to machine the top of the piston to create the dish of the ash tray and the two 'cigar cradles' on either side. The following steps will be to incorporate wrist pin, connecting rod and a few piston rings. The tentative plan for my base is an old brake wheel from a freight car. When complete this beast will weigh in the neighborhood of 145 lbs !! The wind shouldn't blow it off my deck !

I'll update with pics as I progress throughout the project

The wind may not blow it off your deck, but the cigars will be blown away. Seriously cool. I like the ammo boxes near it. Thumbs up :)

Stage II, connecting rod and wrist pin...........

As you can see the rest of the puzzle is starting to come together. The assembled height of the piston and rod is pretty much where I want it so I think I'll scrap the brake wheel idea for the base. I might just bolt a pair of tie plates to the connecting rod.

wt of rod and wrist pin......85#'s !
