Wireworld owners pictures - how flexible are your cables?
Hello;
I was wondering if some of you Wire World owners would mind posting some pictures of your Wire World speaker cables in use, particluaraly the Eclipse/Silver Eclipse/Gold Eclipse/Platinum Eclipse and power cables? As a perspective buyer I'm trying to get an appreciation for how flexible or lack thereof they are compared to standard round cables. I'm just concerned that if they don't bend enough connecting and placing them behind the close quarters of my gear could be problematic. Thanks, Rod |
Depends on how you try to bend them. Side-to-side; no.
Top-to-bottom (creating a flat "loop"), no problem. Best to just have them precise-cut the lengths you need. |
Ron, this should give you a good idea on the power cords...they are VERY flexible (as compared to others, anyway). I can't speak for the speaker cables, yet.
In the picture, below, you will see the twisted silver power cord into the rear of my CD player. At the very bottom, you see the black power connectors which come out of the REF Phono 2...probably pretty similar to what a traditional power could would do. Also, take note of the WW power cable going into the wall outlet...try doing that with some others. Actually, I didn't realize it was so contorted, but I just removed a bunch of cables, and it must have gotten moved in the process. FYI, these are Silver Electra 5.2 cords, I believe. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/...3715354073.jpg |
FYI, the one at the wall isn't quite as contorted as it appears in that other photo...here is a better representation of what it's doing:

I think I can post a few later... :p

I have all WW power cords in my setup and they are the most flexible power cords I've ever used.
|
I have three WW power cords and they quite flexible and easy to dress; I use them in "non-mission critical" applications, e.g. for powering home theatre gear, TVs, blu-ray players as they provide good performance. They are a good-sounding PC which also have beautiful quality connectors and plugs. For mission-critical two-channel playback where sound quality is paramount, I use a Shunyata PCs (mostly Black Mambas and one Venom3), which in my experience, outperform the WW cords sonically. But the Shunyatas are quite a bit stiffer and MUCH harder to dress and snake through racks than the WW PCs, and can be an absolute bitch to work with at times, depending on the orientation of the plug to the IEC socket connector. They are also heavy and tend to pull on the IEC sockets more, which can be a problem if the component is higher up in the rack. But they really do sound fab, IMHO.
Regarding the IC's I have the Equinox 6 ICs which I think VERY highly of; they are reasonably flexible, but nowhere near as flexible and thin as my Zu Mission ICs. The WW Equinox 6s have beautiful, silver plated connectors, also. All in all, a KILLER IC for the money; one of my absolute faves. |

Stephen... Which WW cables have you compared to Shunyata? I have Black Mamba's that I no longer use. |

Not speaker cables and not a very good photo, but it illustrates the tight quarters my WW plain-vanilla Electra 5/2 PC and Equinox 6 IC's contend with. The flat cable that looks like a leather belt is the Electra, which rises behind the massed spaghetti to connect to my line stage after a moderately tight turn. A second Electra, not shown, connects an Oppo universal player (my digital source) to a Shunyata Hydra, again in moderately tight quarters with no apparent strain on the connectors at either end. If my other components weren't captive-corded, I "Electrafy" them as well. The Electras which I have replaced "vintage" Shunyata Sidewinders. The somewhat "rounder" Equinoxes are about as flexible, in fact the most flexible quality IC's I've ever owned. (The Eclipses have a flatter profile, and are, along with the similarly-configured SC's, on my want-to-do list.) |

Just goes to show there's no accounting for taste. Are your Black Mambas the current CX version?

Here are a few pics of my Wireworld 5.2 Silver Electra 2.0 meter PLCs and Silver Eclipse Bi wire speaker cable. I dont have a conventional stereo rack as my equipment sits on a 15 foot custom made shelf--cables are a little crowded but I make do-- hope this helps.

Here is a pic of my WireWorld IC's, SC's and PC's. The IC's are very flexible. The PC's and SC's coil easily against the broad side and not at all against the thin side.

Very busy day for me, I'll post some tomorrow.

The only WW cable I have flexibility problems with is the Equinox 6 Speaker cable. I have bannana plugs on the speaker end as I tend to switch amplifiers often. The connection of the cable to the connector is not stiff enough end seems like it will break soon. Because of the cable weight this point always flexes back and forth.

Wow! Awesome resposne everyone, thanks very much. Great info and great pictures. My setup is very similar to some of the pictures with respect to distance between the back of the gear and the wall and I'm very pleased to see your cables bend into those confines nicely. The power cords definitely appear to be as flexible if not more than my only after market power cord to date, a Kimber PK10 Gold which is a thick and heavy cable at 10 AWG and 10' long.

I like the sounds of that :D

My wireworld eclipse cables are to long for my application and they do not bend to well to tuck behind my cabinet. I bought them a few feet to long just in case i needed more length later on, i haven't needed it yet. I plan on selling them soon and tidying up my cables.
They are well built and do sound good. |

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen pics of that room, it still amazes me! Btw, what are the dimensions of it?

Ivan, that wire management is impressive, given the amount needed. Not to mention all of those components in the allotted space. I don't know if you did it all at once, but how long would you say it would take to re-wire the entire wall? Like in the case of your upgrade to platinum. |
