Very interesting how they include streaming in the calculations for “sales” including YouTube, Spotify etc. this will be an ever changing moving target.

So now that guy living in his mother’s basement with his gaming pc and the Eagles on Spotify set to repeat can account for 1000 album “sales” per month all by himself.

Thriller sold much more than 38 million copies.

I don't believe that figure for a minute. When I was living in London my flatmate worked for Tower Records in Oxford Street, a massive store at the time.

On the day of release of this album, which rocketed to Number 1, I asked him how many did they sell, assuming that there would be people queuing down the road to buy it.

His reply: 7

Me: What 7 only!, how can it be only 7? How can the largest Music Shop in the UK only sell 7 Thriller CD's and the album be number 1?

Him: He just shrugged his shoulders & said, it's not on sales to the public, it's on how many albums we import- we got about thirty boxes of this CD delivered last week. He said we send all unsold boxes back in a few weeks- doesn't affect sale figures for the album!

I haven't trusted sales figures for music since then.

Thriller came out on cassette and vinyl first. Probably a year before it came out on CD?

I've always enjoyed listening to the Eagles and have their "The Studio Albums 1972 - 1979" download in 24/96 FLAC.

If everyone was counting album sales the same way, would that download of 54 songs be considered multiple albums?

In any event, regardless of how the total numbers are calculated, the Eagles Greatest Hits album is certainly worthy of the designation.

My mistake, it was 1987 & the Album was 'Bad'.

Sorry, suffering from CRAFT (Can't Remember A F'ing Thing).

Ha! I am going to steal CRAFT. If I can remember it.

Are there any particular pressings or reissues of the Eagles Greatest Hits LP that are worth seeking out? I like the Eagles but don't have much other than a few used LP's that are kind of scratched up.
