B&W Nautilus. Invented in 1994 and still there, but
The original B&W Nautilus. Sold since 1994 and even nowadays you can buy them new.
I've been told that the Nautilus from today isn't the Nautilus from 1994. The technicians always changed some things to keep it up with technology. But... There're no Mk 1, 2, 3, ... Does anyone of you know, what and when B&W changed over the years something on and in the Nautilus? |
I wonder too

Interesting, I wasn't aware that you could still purchase them new......that's a long time for a product, especially in audio these days.

Still not my cup of tea.

2 pairs per month are still being sold. Virtually the same concept as 24 years ago.
I like Laurence Dickie's new speakers (much) more. They're also less power hungry, read amplifier friendly. |
An intriguing question with few substantive answers available on the interwebs, and I cant imagine many (any?) demo units in US. I hope someone with firsthand knowledge will post pros and cons of their experience.

I heard them years ago when I owned B&W 704s. My aural memory has faded but not the impression that was left. I think they were bi or triamped with Classe and we heard Steely Dan. I didn't know what to listen for but remember being completely mesmerized by the sound. I doubt the sound will ever live up to the memory but I'm happy I was able to hear them.

OK, new infos has been appeared...
There's an owner who knows everything about his babies. He said: " The Nautilus is available in 2 versions....which differ only in the mounting and Nautilus tube of the lower middle up to HT. You don't see it from the outside.... the rest is unchanged. This is by the way with all models of the Prestige series....also a diamond tweeter were never given to the snail. these are all ingredients from the rumour kitchen " |
When I bought my first B&W in 2005 (N804 + ASW800 sub) my dealer had a white pair on display, tri-amped with Classe’ amps. I was impressed but for the price I should be. My step into audiophile waters. I have come a long way in 13 yrs.
