Rega RP3 as first step into vinyl?
 

Hi,

I'm looking to dip my toe into vinyl soon.
I've been looking for an entry level player and my search brought me to a Rega RP3 so far. What I like about it are the possibilities to upgrade (TTPSU, new subplatter, etc) Visually I'm afraid my player has to be white to please my wife (yes, WAF is important as the set sits in our living room)

Any thoughts or experiences about/with this Rega turntable? Does anybody have experience with Rega Fono MM phono amp combined with the RP3?

The RP3 is a great way to get I to vinyl. I've owned the original Rega Planar 3 with the RB300 Arm for over 15 years. It just works great.

The new RP3 is even better. It comes with the improved RB303 arm and the Elys2 cartridge.

Highly recommended! And the white looks excellent. For your first tweak, you could get a black and white moo mat for it!

Agree wholeheartedly with Tom. I don't think you can beat the Rega in this price range for reliability and performance. Also if you're just venturing into vinyl, the simplicity of setup of a Rega table and cartridge combo will have you up and running with minimum fuss. No alignment necessary, just buy a Shure stylus force gauge for $35, a good record brush and maybe a ZeroDust to clean the cartridge and you'll have everything you need to start your downward slide into vinyl addiction.

Great starter setup for sure and will give you years of listening enjoyment. Go for it and post pics :)

A fantastic starter system to wet your appetite. Many say teh Groovetracer subplatter upgrade is great.

Small update:

Last weekend I stumbled upon a used VPI Scout, I will check it out Friday and maybe this will be my first turntable :D

The Scout is a great turntable. Clearly better than the RP3. I would go for it - used belt drive turntables are very low risk purchases.

It is not plug and play, like the Rega, so you will need to make sure the seller has the knowledge to set it up, or have it done professionally by a shop, or get the tools and do it yourself. Enjoy!
