Denon Picks 100th Anniversary Dealers

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 9/23/2010

Atlanta - Denon tapped 36 dealers to carry its 100th Anniversary collection of seven hand-tuned home-entertainment products.

The dealers will be featured in Denon's "100 Days of Denon" marketing campaign, which kicks off Oct. 1. The dealers will work with Denon to execute a multi-tiered marketing and merchandising campaign that includes advertising, contests, giveaways and in-store events, Denon said. The dealers will also receive a Denon 100th Anniversary Dealer logo for use in merchandising the Special Edition products.

The 100th anniversary dealers were selected based on their commitment to a minimum set of merchandising requirements, which Denon will reward with stepped-up support and exclusive access to the anniversary edition products. The dealers will also be featured on Denon's www.Denon100.com microsite.

The anniversary products include the DCD-A100 two-channel SACD/CD player, 2x80-watt PMA-A100 integrated amp, DP-A100 direct-drive turntable, AVR-A100 9.2-channel AV receiver, and DBP-A100 universal Blu-ray player, all at a suggested $2,499 each. The DL-A100 hand-wound turntable cartridge and AH-A100 over-ear headphones are $499 each. All products, available early November, were designed "to capture the essence of Denon and its ongoing mission," the company has said.

Thanks for the list. I am considering the A100 receiver for the bedroom and there is a dealer local to me per this list.

Stephen...it looks like their DP-500M turntable which used to sell for $699 but in a fancier plinth. Here is a link to the older DP-500M on Amazon.com. It also used to be sold at NeedleDoctor.com. Both sites say it is no longer available. Which makes sense since the fancier glossy plinth gets them an $1800 premium:

I had the Denon Turntable and Cartridge. After 1 week it was traded in. The McIntosh, VPI, and Clearaudio available now is way beyond what Denon made in the 70's and with the new pricetag, the VPI Classic is so much better sounding than the 100th Anniversary Denon for nearly the same price. The Nashville dealer is also the new McIntosh dealer in the area. To test them, I went and asked for some advice on setting the tracking on the MT10 with a Stradivari. No one knew anything about it so the owner finally told me to send it McIntosh and have them set it up. Sounds like Best Buy. Is this the future of McIntosh Dealers? Hope Ivan hangs in there so we still have a knowledgeable dealer. ps. I have a Denon AVP-A1HDCI and it is great. It even uses the same Burr Brown DACS as in the MDA1000 and sounds the same with lossless music files.

as jdandy said, the turntable is the same as the $600 table sonically and not a shadow of the quality of the higher end denon models of the 70's. the vpi classic will kill this as you have heard.

The Denon DP100 from the 70's would not be troubled by any of the tables you mention. one of the best tables ever made.

Too bad it is all about marketing and hype these days. Sony and Yamaha once made TTs equal to the DP100. Even Sony's best 'consumer-grade' TTs had carbon fiber tonearms and headshells with jewel bearings (PS-8750) back in the day.

turntable.......I am in the same boat. I love my 1980 Micro Seiki DD-40 turntable with the M505 tone arm. It is a beautiful direct drive turntable with a truly amazing arm that provides on-the-fly adjustments for tracking force, anti-skate, and vertical tracking angle. Very sweet.
