London Multi-CD Boxes Foam Damage: How to Clean?

Even though I have a dozen CD sets of the Wagner Ring Cycle, I decided to listen to the first Solti CDs, which were issued in 1985. Decca issued these CDs in plastic double-boxes with foam pads to protect the four CDs in each box. I haven't played these CDs in years and foolishly didn't remove the foam pads when I first got these sets.

You guessed it - the foam has deteriorated and crumbles to dust when touched. I managed to remove as much of the foam as possible, but some of the CD top surfaces have obvious bits of sticky residue still left.

Any ideas on how to properly clean CDs in this condition without damaging the CD top surfaces?

This is a friendly warning to those who may have similar London/Decca multi-CD boxes from the good-old-days ('80s). Do yourself a favor and remove any foam padding you find inside them or else you'll be in the same predicament.

Have you tried some window cleaner ? I often do that or just some gentle soap and water, works too.
