PHC1's Listening Room Project

1 Attachment(s)
Thought it would be fun to document the progress of my new listening space/room and gear. Obviously work in progress with much work ahead of me in terms of rack, organization, some gear sorting and the most important acoustic treatments!!!

The room is 26x31 but I am using a more intimate, closer setup considering the speakers are monitor sized. The speakers are 10ft apart with my listening sweet spot being 11 ft away.

I did the best I could so far with speaker placement for minimum wall coupling and best imaging from my listening position. Sounds good enough to listen to and enjoy for now but it will get better once the room is tamed a bit with treatments. :music:

I will post some updates as I work out a plan for treating the front wall, the rack, etc...

1. Immediate plan is waiting for YggY dac and finally being able to spin some of my CDs again as well as taking the S/Q much higher since I am listening to dac module out of my headphone amp right now! :D

2. Get the rack ordered.

3. Work out a plan for acoustic treatments. Will probably go the GIK route.

It will be fun to compare before and after so I will play the same song as this one with the bare walls and the mess in my listening room and then once again when everything is in order.

Here is the beginning.

Here is the sound of the "bare wall" setup. https://youtu.be/YiDYahaPMpw

Serge.......This will be fun to watch the progress. Lots of potential there.

Thinking of going with Quadraspire SVT2 to keep the height lower than a standard rack. :scratch2:

Serge.......Quadraspire is a great choice. Also, for acoustic treatment you may want to consider Vicoustic Wavewood panels.

Dan, Vicoustic is great but they are glued on? I would rather not glue anything to the faux painted walls as they will be wrecked if I ever have to remove them. The GIK are mounted on the sawtooth hangers so a small nail hole is much less destructive? :scratch2:

Serge,

They don’t have to be. I glued pieces of thin plywood on the back of the Vicoustic panels then used French Clips screwed into the wood and my wall to hang them. Not that bad a task and I only have a few holes in my wall to repair should I change direction.

I'm liking the GIK Impression series panels.

Thinking of doing the front wall center image spot/diffusion pattern out of 4 GIK Gotham Quadratic Diffusion blocks.
