Certainly very interesting and very different from the Swiss watch factories I have visited.

Thanks for sharing that Dan I enjoyed watching it!

When I think of Seiko it is usually their quartz watches that come to mind. Their spring powered mechanical watches in the Grand Seiko line are of a different caliber all together.

PHC1 02-04-2016 02:28 PM

Good to see Seiko offering this level of craftsmanship and their prices on Grand Seiko line are more down to earth than many others. thanks for sharing Dan

radio times 02-04-2016 06:00 PM

But there not sharing it with the uk market, neither the new yummy prospex maritime lovelies, nor the 0033 dress watch. So frankly seiko, you can...

Seiko does make good, reliable and relatively priced watches. Still had this mechanical Grand Seiko - bought in Hong Kong almost 5 years back for SGD4500 and still functioning.

The Grand Seiko SBGC005 in High-intensity titanium is a beauty, too.

The spring drive is also available in regular Seiko branded watched as well. Great movement, love the smooth movement of the sweep second hand, reminds me of the electric wall clocks in school. My only criticism with Seiko (GS) is the bracelet quality is not on par with the rest if the timepiece. Same problem Rolex had for years which I think they have fixed a few years back.

Love it! The Swiss manufactures have nothing on Seiko when Seiko pulls out all the stops...

Puma Cat 02-26-2016 03:51 AM

If you think Grand Seiko is something, check out Seiko's Credor line. Insane.

jdandy 02-26-2016 12:46 PM

Stephen.......The Credor video was astonishing. I also loved the piano ensemble music. I would enjoy owning that music and a Credor watch.

audio bill 02-26-2016 02:18 PM

+1 Thanks for sharing. I knew about Grand Seiko but never heard of Credor. Gotta love mechanical musical watches, and their tone sounds excellent!

Thanks for the link Stephen, The 003 in leather is what I wanted but couldn't get, so I went Swiss with the Tissot le Locre. It seems to be a trustworthy site, so once again many thanks.

Radio,
My SARB033 came with a bracelet and within 10 minutes of opening the box, I had the bracelet off and a leather strap installed. The Seiyajapan link is completely trustworthy and highly regarded for folks shopping for JDM watches.

Dale.......The Seiko MarineMaster 600 is a beauty but it is huge, 50.7mm x 16.2mm. You'll be hard pressed to get some sleeve cuffs to fit over it. Beyond that, it is a beautiful watch. Retail is $4,200.00

Tool watch, meant for actual divers doing real work! ;)

Puma Cat 02-27-2016 02:59 PM

Not it the realm of Grand Seiko, but Seiko recently released the successor to the incredibly successful SKX series of divers. Hailed as the return of "the Turtle", the new Seikos harken back to the vintage and legendary Seiko 6309 series. The original Turtle reference 6309 has become quite collectable and back when it was in original production was extremely popular as an extremely reliable and durable "beater" watch. Some units were known to work for over 20 years without a service.

Here's the original Seiko 6309:

http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...ize/6309-2.jpg

Enter the new "Turtle" the Seiko SRP "Prospex" series, with vintage-style cushion case and drilled lugs, solid end links, and a new movement with hand-winding and a hacking function.

The new SRP773 in blue

SRP777 with black bezel with a nice leather strap:
http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...pex-SRP777.jpg

Also available with the "Pepsi bezel"
http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...ize/srp779.jpg

Beautiful rugged case with brushed and polished surfaces, drilled lugs and a nice beefy bezel:
http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...775_SRP777.jpg

Personally, I like the SRP775 best with gold accented bezel, hands and markers.

Retail is about $450, but these have been selling online for about $375.

Nice review at Worn & Wound:

If you want to see $6500 depreciate buy this watch . Thats a lot for a seiko. In this price range there are better options such as : Omega, IWC, Breitling, pre owned Rolex

I was commenting on it's beauty (to me), regardless, no one pays msrp.

also, it's not just a Seiko, rather a Grand Seiko

Does Omega, IWC, Breitling not depreciate? :D Buy a gold Rolex of any kind including the Daytona and lose 50% when selling it. A watch is something you buy because it appeals to you, not because it is an investment.

Gold rolex models depreciate much more.

Tecknik1 02-16-2018 09:21 PM

Does Seiko even make a gold version ( solid gold ) of any model and gold rolex,s don't depreciate 50% when selling them.

really ?? show me Serge and it better be as good as my 10 year old Daytona !

I have NEVER see a gold Daytona (pre-owned) complete with all papers in the excellent condition I speak of sell for under 15k, so there are seven days in a week.....show me seven !

You guys are obviously neglecting to remain on the original topic. My thread is about the Grand Seiko, not about Omega, Breitling, or Rolex. Please feel free to start your own thread on the topic of your choice. Thank you.
