Hmm, not sure if that's entirely accurate. Current models have different transports, and K-01 has twice the number of dac chips as K-03. I don't think that will change.
DSD support is obviously a welcome change for some! |
Good Times.......The current model Esoteric K-01 and K-03 both use the VRDS-Neo transport. The K-01 adds the tray shutter which the K-03 does not use. The K-01 uses 16 - AKM 4399 DAC's (8 per channel). The K-03 uses 8 - AKM 4399 DAC's (4 per channel).

That is not accurate Dan. The K-01 uses the VRDS-NEO VMK-3.5-20S transport, the K-03 uses the VMK-3.5-10. There are more differences than just the tray shutter. You can even hear the differences if you put your ear to the transport whilst in use (I've owned both), the K-01 running more quietly.

I don't believe either of the models in the OP will see our shores anytime soon.

Yes but so is the transport in the K-05 (also called a VRDS-NEO). I just wanted to clarify for everyone that the K-01 and K-03 have different transports, which is contrary to what the original article states.

According to Scott Sefton of Esoteric, after speaking to Integra, he said the new units are not being released in the US until Fall of this year. They will appear in Japan in late summer, and you can expect a 2 month delay to the US/Europe markets. He also stated that there are some inconsistancies with the print and the actual new products ... The DACs, the transports, etc. And he finished with, No information on if or when there will be an upgrade path to DSD/USB, as of yet.

FWIW, this looks a lot like the TEAC version which came with my Teac UD-501 TEAC HR Audio Player | TEAC http://teac.jp/content/images/jp/products/894/main.jpg |
