Fathom v2 Reliability

Now that the Fathom v2's have been out for awhile, how has the reliability been with them?

Thinking of upgrading my F113 v1 to F212v2 and want to ensure the new amp's have now addressed the issue with the caps prematurely failing.

I have not had, or even heard of a v2 failure of any kind. That said, all of mine have been upgraded when the v2’s were released.

I had an issue with an early version of the F113 V2 (I bought it an soon as they came out). Even though it was outside of the warranty period, JL Audio covered it under warranty.

Don't know about the reliabity of the F212V2, but in my recent experience and past experience, JL's customer support is truly excellent.

Just an idea for you to consider, Instead of a single F212V2, you might want to explore two F113v2 as that allows you more flexibility with positioning the subs in the room.

I will be looking at dual subs for sure - either dual F212v2 or keeping both of my F113v1 and augmenting them with another F113v2. Still undecided though....

I have not had the best luck with the Fathoms to be honest, albeit those were the originals so am hoping a lot of the issues have been weeded out by now, especially since the current design has been around over a decade now.

I have Fathoms v1 and V2 and use them together. Both my v1 and V2 had issues but JLAudio covered them under warranty. Had they not be covered by warranty, I would have tried a DIY cap replacement. The V2 has only been around a little over 4 years.

JLA is more than fair when it comes to warranty repairs. I had a v1 amp module failure when my sub was 1 year past it’s warranty. JLA repaired it for free. All I had to pay for was one-way shipping of the amp module to get it there and they covered return shipping. It cost me about $15 and about 10 days downtime.

I’ve since upgraded to a v2 which has been rock solid with no issues.

All these failure problems with JL Audio subs is very disheartening. :tears: I know JL supports the stuff, but no one wants dealing with shipping heavy subs back.

Unfortunately, forums can compound equipment problems.
I wonder if anyone has not had long term issues with them. :scratch2:

My two F113 v1 subs have worked perfectly from Day 1!

How lucky you are! Two my three blew the caps. Sold one I had repaired and one before it blew its cap. Third one has been in storage in its box for three years now.
Maybe someday I’ll follow the instructions on AA to pull the board and replace the bad cap. But I e been very disappointed with JL knowing it’s a problem and not updating their production to upgrade that cap once they knew it was an issue and provide instructions for field replacement or a free cap to do so.
Having a 66% failure rate in my home soured me to them which is a pity since I loved having three in my HT at the time.

Interesting how folks with v1's that have had any type of issue have still gone ahead upgrading to the v2.

If it we'rent for the awesome sound quality and the fact JL seems to support them well, I would be looking elsewhere.
