Power amplifier to replace McIntosh MC302
Looking for amplifier to replace McIntosh MC302 as amplifier would have thermal issues on 8 ohm tap which sounded better than the 4 ohm tap. After 2 hours playing music with meters between 30-300 watt , power guard lights start to flash , with fins on amplifier hot enough to burn fingers.
Maybe Bryston 4B cubed would work better? Also seen reviews that the Red Dragon M1000 Mk ll amplifiers work well. Seems more power the better with Magnepan 1.7i Besides models I mentioned, any other power amplifiers I should look at? Dan |
Dan.......I would move to a McIntosh MC452 if you wish to remain with a single chassis amplifier, otherwise bring home a pair of MC601's. Either amplifiers will give those Maggies what they hunger for.

I have had no problems with my Cary Audio Monoblocks powering my Magnepan 3.7. 1000 watts a channel at ,4 ohms never been hot. Warm yes.

Otherwise MC601 would be what I like Dan |

If not the Bryston then how about the Classe mono-block amps? Believe JA of Stereophile uses a pair as his reference amps for reviews.

Also the PS Audio BHK hybrid amps should do the trick.

Bryston has always been considered a fantastic amp for Mags.

Are the bigger Simaudio amps a consideration?
