I was a late bloomer to PI; but had prior humidity experience in SVN -- the jungle weight loss plan -- monthly dues waived.:D
When the wife & I arrived in 1985 at USAFB Clark & stepped off the airplane, I immediately remembered what SE Asia humidity felt like - I lost 2 pounds walking down 20 steps. The wife's perm fizzled immediately, and humidity at 11AM took your breath away. You struggled for a few seconds to adjust from airplane AC to reality -- hello.
As US Army soldier, the assignment to a joint service organization on CAB was awesome experience & the Filipino people are so loyal to the USA (WWII-- they don't forget). I love 'em.
Ironically, the only other US Army assigned in-country were animal veterinarians -- why, --the USAF doesn't have animal veterinarians as a military specialty.
However, not all of my 3 years there - 1985-1988 - Marcos's ouster years represented a pacific paradise those last 18 months in-country),
3 USAF personnel shot in back of their head near the main gate within 15 minutes of each, near the McDonalds outside Clark AB in 1987 by Communist guerrillas toting .45's (or so reported). May they continue to RIP.
Bob
P.S. I was a SNCO - enlisted E-8 (MSG) & was constantly saluted - by fellow service branch enlisted personnel. Too funny:lmao:
