Thanks.

I just grabbed a pair or 807s and some adapters to take to the office tomorrow where my modified Universal is. I’ll let you know.

Looks like a new model has hit Ebay, the 45-v, running 45 or A3 tubes!

Rule, I have a 45 Dennis made last year, and I'm running it with the LP 3.1a pre. and original Heresy's, which are 95db. Its surprising how much authority this little amp has. It can put out more volume than I need.

Hi, Really good to know the venerable 807 is an excellent audio tube. I was brought up with 807's in the marine environment, generally as RF amplifiers and modulator tubes. Notably used in the Marconi Oceanspan Transmitter. The 807 was durable and reliable under such adverse conditions. Hope its quite the same within the audio field.

You should give 807 tubes a try. I've found them to be quite good overall with excellent soundstage and tonal balance. They are also considerably cheaper than KT8C.

Apparently the KT8(C) was a British attempt to improve on the 807 with limited success.

Inspire KT 66

Hello,
I am new to tube amps, I just purchased a used Inspire KT66 production year 2014. I am looking for other opinions on if Dennis's newer amps would sound better. I really am enjoying this on some Lii Audio F15 open baffles it sounds amazing! You know how the audio hobby is always looking for a better sound. I want to get another one for a second system.
Thanks,
rmlowz

My trial did not go well. A terrible noise from the left channel. Some flashing in the IIPS rectifier. That is the custom aspect to my Universal. Tube rectification and IIPS. Not sure how this would translate to a stock Universal. I’ll check with Dennis and report back.

I've never had an issue w/807's in my IIPS/tube rectified SET HO Fire Bottle.

I'd bet it was a bad adapter or a faulty tube.

Ah, makes sense why the 807 didn't overheat your amp like mine.
I have the Fire-bottle with full pentode wiring. Not sure if Pentode operation needs more bias then running in SET, but something is making the SET run cooler. I wouldn't recommend anybody running 807 in their pentode wired amps based on my experience. Even before 807 blew my fuse, the amp ran considerably hotter with 807 than kt88.

All of the Inspire amps sound great but they are different. I have three Inspire amps. Enjoy. :music:
