Ref CD9 question

I’ve emailed ARC twice with no reply so hopefully someone here can advise. I’m using the balanced output to drive a headamp for Stax cans. Can I also connect the RCA outputs to a separate preamp providing I don’t use both headamp and pre. at the same time? Many thanks.

You should be fine with that.

Best Sir,

Bob

Hi guys,
I'm still a newbie so i can't post a new thread. I have to slip in to this thread. Hope u guys don't mind.
I just bought a used cd9 and everything seem to work fine but It could not play/read chic corea 'rendezvous in new york' sacd. Anybody know why? My previous player which is the primare cd22 could play it with no issues.

I don't think that the CD-9 plays SACDs ... it's redbook only.

Tks for the reply cleeds,
Funny the entry level primare cd22 could play it.

It does not.

All of the Audio Research CD players used perhaps the best Red Book transport mechanisms ever made, the Philips CD Pro family, with the Ref CD 9 getting the CD Pro 2.

However the downside of that is just that - Red Book only.

If you're curious:

The SACD must be a hybrid SACD/CD disc for it to play on a CD-only player like the CD9. Just to be sure, check that this SACD also has the Compact Disc logo.

Now, the Primare CD22 is also a CD-only machine. If it indeed played that disc, it must be a hybrid disc.

I am not aware that the Audio Research CD players, or others using the CD-Pro2 transport have issues with hybrid SACD/CDs. Do you have other hybrid discs you can test?

I have the CD7 (same transport), but don't own any SACDs so I can't test it for you. Maybe there are others on this forum that could?

The one reason I did not buy the CD9

I enjoy the sonics from the CD9, but since I own SACD's I ended up with an Esoteric K-01X. If only ARC would have included a provision for SACD. Just think how great it would sound!

Tks for all the reply guys.
I just checked and it is a hybrid sacd, it says on the cd label which I did not notice. And my cd9 can't read it. Is there a setting that I should do to play hybrid sacd? If not then I might have to send it for repairs or cd9 just can't play hybrid sacd. Anybody with cd9 have tried playing hybrid sacd?

So I bought another hybrid sacd and it works fine on the cd9. My guess is the cd9 has a ver sensitive lens that it can't read slightly scratched disc.
