I spent part of the afternoon listening to both headphones.

I'll post my impressions later, but suffice it to say that the Valhalla 2 is really a lovely headphone amplifier. It reminds me quite a bit of my C-J gear.

Something about a good tube amp...I tell ya....Valhalla 2 does female vocals really beautifully.

Triode and especially OTL (output-transformer-less) amps seem to always excel at midrange. :music:

Yes, indeed. The Amperexes help out with that a bit, too. What's the ETA on your Valhalla 2?

According to Huginn and Muninn, the pair of Norse ravens that fly over Midgard (our realm) it looks like Wednesday delivery. :D

The HD650 are breaking in nicely and I find them very enjoyable. :music:
A bit stronger foundation for the bass notes compared to the HD600, similar warmish and sexy mids, smooth and easy on the ears upper mids and highs. Hard not to fall in love with such easy going, relaxed and musical set. Comfortable, not heavy on the head, smooth sounding, rather forgiving and more tolerant of less than perfect recordings. I find the pairing of Asgard 2 and HD650 very enjoyable for extended listening sessions.

Sounds like the classic HD650 sound. Senn redesigned the 600s to address those areas you've highlighted. They are very popular with the gang at SBAF (Super Best Audio Friends).
