Does anyone do this?

I felt it was time to peak inside the Ref.6 and do some dusting.
Not much dust in there, but I recall seeing a lot more caps in Ref.5se.

While at it, I turned over the plexy cover too.

Is that completely stock inside there?

I believe the number of caps in the Ref5se and the Ref 6 are the same. They are different caps.

Banter:

Under that row of big gold axial caps is a shipping spacer. It was placed there to prevent the leads from breaking off during shipping. It is supposed to be removed during use and retained for future road trips. It looks like yours is still in place. It takes a firm yet gentle tug to pull it out. I suggest you remove it.

It’s a great pre. I really like mine.

Jeff

Excellent sounding preamp!

I run my Ref 5se with the top off for better ventilation. The 6550 tube can gets very hot. ARC claims that the Ref 5se sounds best with the top off and the LCD display turn all the way down. I would imagine the same goes for the Ref 6.

Jeff, good eye. Sure enough it was there and it is out now.
Thank you.

I thought I was the only other person doing that! I have never liked or accepted the plastic covers. I've got this phobia regarding plastics when they are heated up and off gas. They do produce a lot of heat with covers on. The other is the fact that it's faster to change valves.
