Jeff,
Thanks for the infos.
The problem is that the author does not cover the differences in sound between 6CA7 and EL34. He seems to consider that they sound the same.

The info wasn't intended to be a review between different flavors of the same tube but more so of the background and history of EL34/6CA7 tubes.....

Gents, just got used but mint Manley Shrimp with stock tubes.
Could you recommend second market NOS tubes to replace manley 12AT7 and 7044?
What do i seek? More transparent, detailed and melody sound. Now i have some grains in the sound expecially in voices and its a bit back layered.

I tried shrimp of my friend and he uses Siemens and Tungsten tubes. The sound was more melodic. And inspired with the sound i bought shrimp but it is with stock tubes.

Here is what I have in my Jumbo Shrimp:

Jumbo Shrimp: 12AT7 (2) Mullard/Wollensak-3M NOS 1965

Doesn't the Stingray have this switch?

Yes. I do not think you should/could switch it on the fly. But you have a choice of Ultra Linear and Triode for 100 watts/ch or 50 watts/ch.

Old thread, but if like my Mahi amps, then it is recommended by Manley that they be turned off for at least 5-sec before flipping the switch between UL and Triode.

The Mahi monoblock also has a switch that allows one to switch between minimum, standard or maximum feedback that can be changed on the fly. Whenever I do so I always turn the volume on the preamp down to zero. While generally a fan of triode, I find that the Canton Ref 9K speakers like the punch of the Mahi in UL mode with at least 27wpc.
