Thank you, that explains a lot, so no matter the output / input tubes you could use any rectifier, quite some merit indeed.

The new LP-76 preamp and the new 6V6'er amp...straitwire...:rock-on:

Yes, A good time was had over at Analog's. His Altec collection is quite impressive. It was effortless for 5 watts to drive a wall full of speakers. Amazing sounding setup you have Analog.

Those two new Inspires are something to commend as well. I have had a 6v6er on order for a short while. Again, the anticipation is quite intense. I really liked that LP76 a lot as well. Another winner in the lineup. Temptation temptation. I know Dennis bought a case of 76 tubes a while back . I am betting this LP76 will be a limited run.

That's why I thought the 5U4 would not do, as a matter of fact Brent Jessee quote regarding the 5881
" They can replace any 6L6 type except for the GC, 7581, or KT66. They MAY POSSIBLY be used as a sub for these tubes, but ONLY if your amp does not exceed the ratings of the 5881! Most amps calling for a 6L6GC type will exceed these ratings and the 5881 may overheat or arc over, so check first before subbing these"

So the 5881 ratings are not the same as the GC

But if you are saying the 5U4 can be used with the 5881 then it is good, I just don't want them to arc over and get damaged

I believe that 6L6G/GA quote was by me. I have an Inspire PSE and a triode strapped Inspire. I use a 5y3 or Type 80 rectifier with 6L6G/GA's or 6V6G's. I'm driving 99db Heresy 3's with the 6L6G and 6V6g's. They may not provide enough power for your speakers.

The 5581 is a different tube and can be used with a 5U4 rectifier.

Straitwire, please chime in. :D

@straitwire Do you know if Dennis has any intentions of designing an 845 power amp in the future?

straitwire 02-11-2020 09:50 PM

Hey Floridaboy, yeah you can use a 5U4 with 5881's. I have run a variety of 6F6's, 6V6's and 6L6's with 5U4 rectifiers in my FireBottle (no IIPS) without any problems...straitwire

Hey Comzee, Dennis doesn't want to build an 845 amp, sorry...straitwire

zbyte 02-11-2020 10:42 PM

Hi @straitwire, do you know what he would like to build? a 300B maybe? I have to say the gas regulated PSET's looked pretty sweet, I just asked him and my CFLV-v can be configured as mono as well doubling the output (which is amazing in my opinion) just paralleling the output and input
Don't get me wrong the CFLV for tube rolling is PRETTY AMAZING, some people would like to have the higher powered tubes (300's 845 as well)
Just wondering, so far I'm loving my CFLV-v

I might add it was quite smart to add a volume / gain control, digital rigs will allow to use your DAC and digital software with this amp WITHOUT A PRE which is awesome, the volume control just allows for fine tuning and for the real tweakers doing bi / tri amping etc. the volume control is just the thing (I am personally using it)

"I have a dream"... Small form factor 845s, point-to-point, pure triode front end, modern tubes, no NOS required, Class-A, 20w. They exist! :)

Thanks for the tip!! I'm looking into it right now.
No price listed, let's hope it's not astronomical like most 845 amps...

Hey zbyte, A few of our customers have configured there stereo amps as monos like you said.
And the volume pot is a popular option...straitwire
