Plans for ARC Ref 150 with KT-150s? (like is in the works for the ARC Ref 250)

I have read in the Audiogon forums that Albert Porter has upgraded his ARC Ref 250s with KT-150 tubes (replacing his KT-120s). He stated that it sounds better with deeper more meaningful base. I am interested in doing the same with my ARC Ref 150 - but have not heard if this is in the works yet (my dealer is still researching). Anyone out there if information on this potential upgrade?

Search here and on Agon for KT-150 in the search term. Many folks have already tried and like the switch. ARC has not officially sanctioned the move yet. But quietly they have told dealers and some customers that they are a drop-in replacement and you would bias at the same 65mA I believe. You can call ARC directly and talk to Kalvin.

Here's one thread for example: http://www.audioaficionado.org/audio...-kt150-11.html

Go for it. These tubes are available and they are fantastic. I know some who have done it with REF250s (including ARC) and many of us who have done it with REF75. You won't believe it.

Howie...am I correct in that ARC recommends to bias at the same 65mA as with the KT120 (and 6550) before it in these amps?

The availability of 150 tubes in volume is constraining AR build of the newer amp. One individual with 750's was asking about availability of the matched tubes so they could swap them in their amps.

Thanks guys. I went to the LA and Orange County Audio Society meeting today (11/9/14) and it turns out that Dave Gordon was there promoting the new G series (especially the new G150 stereo amp at $20K with KT150s instead of 120s). He did say to call Kalvin like you said as well for more info about the potential for upgrading the Ref 150 to the KT150s. One thing he was vague about though was if the new bigger tubes are going to fit with the cover on the tubes. Anyone try this with a Ref 150 and have success?

I was at the same meet and Dave said during his talk that the KT150 is a drop-in replacement for the KT120. I asked him specifically about the Ref 75 and he said it'll be no problem making the swap.

I use Ref150 with KT150 for 200h now and it sounds much better than with KT120. tubes fit the sizing and do not touch the cover and it is still space between tubes. fully recommend this upgrade.

Where did you purchase the tubes? Thanks.

ARC recommends upscale audio.
