Why?

They appear to go lower in frequency response on paper. 15" vs 12" woofer. And they are 3db higher in efficiency. The cabinet is also quite a bit larger.

GhostInTheMachine,

Great set-up. This is going to be interesting. I am looking forward to your comparison of the forte' III and the Cornwall III. I had the original forte' for 28 years. Just sold them this past December. I really enjoyed them and have always wondered how the forte' and the Cornwall compared/differed to each other.

Cheers,

Scott

Thank you for the kind words. The Cornwalls have landed and are breaking in. Several hours into break-in, and I'm already impressed with the range in dynamics.

Here is a shot of the Cornwall III breaking in. I have installed a set of Cardas jumpers at the bi-wire speaker connectors to replace the stock jumpers. I have also set the Cornwall III on top of Symposium Rollerblocks double-stacked. If you look closely you can see the Cornwalls are not on the floor, but resting atop of the Rollerblocks. Huge improvement in resolution up and down the frequency range. I have also added Symposium Svelt shelves atop the Cornwall III to absorb resonant frequencies on the surface of the speakers.

There is a big difference in the newest Tractrix horn used in the Forte III compared to the horns used in earlier and current Heritage models. The 'heart and soul' of any Klipsch speaker is the midrange horn. Paul Klipsch spent most of his time working to improve the sound from the midrange horn, i.e., "The midrange is where we live".
