My New Garage Project

3 Attachment(s)
I have a brand new house here in SC so I decided to do a garage the way I have always wanted one.

Started with a multi-level floor coating. GarageExperts’ technology is SOA from their grinding of every floor to insure the top layer of weak concrete is removed. From there a solvent based Epoxy coating is rolled on. That is chipped and allowed to cure. It takes about 5 hours at 55F air temp. That is then followed by a Polyurethane clear coat and lastly a Polyurea clear coat. I am happy with the finished product and pretty confident it won’t peal, yellow or stain. I used to be in the business of making Epoxy and Polyurethane chemicals.

Today, I installed the first part of my storage system. I decided upon the Gladiator products from Whirlpool leveraging Black Friday deals at Home Depot. In addition to these cabinets, I have two floor cabinets that will roll under the hard wood table and two tall cabinets for larger stuff. I will likely be adding more in time along with other assorted wall hangers.

The goal here is to have everything off the floor so there are fewer places for crawling and running critters to hide!

More to come when I have more cabinets and install new lights on the ceiling.

Craig,

The floor looks fantastic! Congrats on a great start. As my neighbor said - "if you're going to build a doghouse, you might as well make it a good one"

Where is the big screen and stereo speakers going to go? And the keggerator?

Doghouse Ha!! No plans for Electronics there yet.

What happens when something leaks oil?! Of course, that only happens in my garage. Looks great - I’m envious.

Looking good Craig. I had a similar job done on the concrete floor of my previous house and at some point will have to in the new one.

The top coat is mostly impervious to automotive fluids. Oil is no problem. Something like brake fluid, if it is allowed to sit for long periods of time could soften and ‘peal’ the coating though. That won’t be a problem.

The one thing I do have to watch is Battery acid leaks from our Golf Cart. That is why there will be a sacrificial rubber mat under that.

Congrats, that will be really nice!!
