RC Truck Rock Crawling
 

The latest craze in the RC world is "Crawling". The idea is to build a scale looking 4WD truck and get out there and get some fresh air and enjoy four wheeling aka "crawling". Here is just an example of what it looks like. :thumbsup:

Here is a project I am working on. I chose the Land Rover Defender 110 body for my 4WD adventures. The inspiration came from the "Camel Trophy" of the days past if anyone remembers or familiar with what that is.

This, along with hunting, golf and scuba diving, is something I have actively avoided because it looks like so much fun that I know I would turn it into an obsession (much like audio). I have a 2004 landcruiser that I love and have it serviced at one of the country’s best known ‘cruiser shops - I have to suppress the desire to trick it out every time I go in there.

They look a lot like my son-in-laws off-road truck, though his is a full-size model. Has a fitted tent on the roof for camping. Wonder if there is much difference in $$ between the small and full-size models?

It is an obsession much like most other hobbies out there. The scale "trail" and "crawler" 4WD trucks have grown into competitions being held nationally at least a few times a year in various states along with charity events for good causes. It draws in all ages across the board. RC hobby whether air, sea or land offers various levels of technical levels of builds and complexity with the simpler models being enjoyed by the younger generation and very complex and "scale" models by seasoned pilots and drivers.

Just like the full scale off-road vehicles, the most popular 1/10 scale class of vehicles can be outfitted with parts that vary from inexpensive to rather pricey. The RC world often imitates the full scale and a licensing from companies to produce parts like wheels, axles, tires, bodies of Jeep, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, etc.. allow for 1/10 representation of what you would see on a full scale off-road and on road trucks, cars, airplanes and boats. Even the tires are scaled down and licensed replicas of BFGoodridge and others and have the same tread patterns. :D Yes, one can spend quite a bit on a 1/10 scale model but for the most part it still costs much less than the full scale vehicle obviously. :smoking:

Here is just one example. A fully licensed 1/10 Portal style Axle replica of Currie Enterprises that is offered for many models. Bolts on just like the real deal. :D
