Brussels Hifi Show 2015 - a nice event!
Hi folks, last Sunday, my wife and I spent an entire day in Brussels, where 10 dealers set up a good show.
It was an entertaining, not too crowded and friendly event. I had some nice chats with importers and producers. Not a lot of the dealers knew of AudioAficionado before, but when they heard about the 162,000 members, and usually 4 times as much 'lurkers' as members online, they were more than willing to share some of their time. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...02812334_n.jpg Stay tuned. Meta took a lot of pictures! |
First room: Focal and the 432 Evo Streamer/server.
432 Evo is a Belgian company. They produce streamers that convert 440Hz into 432Hz on the fly. It seems that 90% of the listeners prefer 432Hz as it would sound more natural. Italian composers from the 17th and 18th century knew this already and composed in 432Hz I was told. As hard as I tried, I couldn't hear a difference. It could have been the Focal headphones, that might be not revealing enough. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08135.jpg I could switch as much as I wanted, but nope, nothing changed for me. I want to hear this through a decent system, but so far I'm not convinced. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08136.jpg For the rest this was an interesting room, with Focal Sopras, Metronome Technology CD/DAC, and amps I hadn't heard of before. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08153.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_IMG_2624.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08143.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08138.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08137.jpg The server has 2 Tb internal memory. No SSD as they believe SSD cause high pitch distortion. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08145.jpg |
Some room treatment in that same room:
http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08155.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08156.jpg I didn't get he pyramid like thingies... |
We only heard the Super HL5 speakers.
Their little brothers were on display: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08188.jpg Wireworld cabling: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08198.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08200.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08202.jpg This was a good sounding room. Price/performance ratio very good even. The Harbeths, that I had already heard with Halgorythme amplification, wonderfully held their own. I was even looking if there was a sub involved, but there wasn't. Only disadvantage, which I already noticed at Cédric's place: the wooden box construction plays along, and it's clearly audible. |
Next room: Alluxity with Gauder Akustik:
http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08224.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08226.jpg The amp and DAC were new to me, and the specs are promising. I saw this gear in other rooms too: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_IMG_2625.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_IMG_2626.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_IMG_2627.jpg This room sounded nice, but maybe a little too hard. I think these electronics can handle large speakers. There seemed to be a lot of power behind them. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_IMG_2628.jpg |
Also in that room: Dali:
http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08221.jpg Accustic Arts: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08229.jpg Audiomat: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08231.jpg And these horn loudspeakers I forgot the name of. Price: 5K. I wanted to go back and hear them, but time was too short... http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08236.jpg By the way: a lot of gear was on static display. For dealers way to show potential customers what they can fine in the stores I guess. |
Next room: Estelon speakers with Alluxity gear.
http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08244.jpg Very elegant speakers. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08247.jpg Although sometimes, some stupid visitors spoil the view... :D http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08248.jpg I would have liked to really hear what these speakers are capable of, but they kept on playing dull music, so we moved on to another room. Some shots of the electronics: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08250.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08252.jpg |
Next room: one of the top rooms.
I know the dealer well, I bought quite some stuff there. It was a highly entertaining room, with the usual artifacts you also find in his 2 shops. Lyravox are all-in-one devices that breathe nostalgia but have all modern technology onboard. http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08257.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08261.jpg Here's Sammy, with his guests: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_IMG_4876.jpg Devices of all times: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08258.jpg The PMC corner: http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08434.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08266.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_IMG_4884.jpg |
Burmester with Transrotor:
http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08390.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08360.jpg The new BA31 http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08268.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08286.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08285.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08275.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08278.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08282.jpg http://www.metazahren.com/photograph...1_MMZ08288.jpg Good sounding system, very impressive the amount of air those relatively small speakers can move. I prefer Burmester with other speakers though, like Sonus Faber or Vivid Audio. |
