Jensen or Mundorf coupling capacitors?
You can choose either on all the Cary tube amplifiers.
Which do most people choose. I've had both in my 120S. The jensen wins for midrange, sounding more like a vintage tube amp. The Mundorfs win for space and timing, like a more modern tube amp. Hard to say if there is a winner. If you listen to vocals I would say Jensen maybe. |
I'm happy with the Clarity MR caps that replaced the Jensens in my SLI-80.

I too am interested in this topic. I am looking to upgrade my slp98p and I have to send it in anyway.
Seems like they recommend the Mundorf. I am looking to improve all. :). Upper extension, low end, mids and soundstage. Is that possible with the Cary upgrades offered? Which upgrades are the best if anyone has an opinion. Cary has mentioned really expanding soundstage and low end. Thanks. |
It has been mentioned in various forums that the Jensens leak after a relatively short time and the Mundorfs emphasis the upper frequencies. You should try the VCap CUTF caps.

Replaced VCaps in my SLI-80 with the Clarity MRs. Think the Clarity are a bit 'faster' sounding to my ears, but was a couple of months of break-in between the two, so going off my memory.

Well here's the deal.
If you like midrange and vocals go with the Jensen. Of you like clarity imaging and other things go with the Mundorf. Weird how much the amp changes with just this one part. These three mugs are dialed in and there probably is nothIng "Better", only "Different" at this level..... |
Haha.
Well that is a tough call. :). I have magnepan 20.7s. So I like vocals and mids obviously but - soundstage , image, depth etc are important. A tough call - I think I said that all ready. Lol. |
The problem is the Jensen midrange is KILLER and addictive....
|
Mix and match as you see fit.
|
Well my pre is off to Cary. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Things were packed pretty well. Once it gets there they will diagnose the current issue and then we will talk about possible upgrades. I'm nervous. :)
