Stillpoint Ultra 5s under MC2301s Install Question
 

Getting ready to attach my new Stillpoint Ultra 5’s to my Mcintosh MC2301. Unfortunately the Ultra 5’s have a larger diameter then the Ultra SS.

I need to remove the plastic pieces from my MC2301’s. Since I have never opened the bottom cover on the amp I am not sure what purpose they serve and if they can be removed safely.

IF I remember correctly, you remove the bottom plate (easy), those white things will snap out by squeezing them.

White parts are use to bolt to the wood pallet.

Can you triangulate them inside the feet and not worry about the white clips? If not, quad them inside the feet.

FME, the best success is positioning the Stillpoints under power supplies, capacitors...

Removed the white clips by taking the bottom cover off the MC2301's. The clips were then removed by squeezing and pushing them from the cover . Ultra 5's installed without interference from the white clips, ultra SS's moved to other pieces of gear.

Isn't there an adaptor that fits the existing footer holes?

Yes, the Ultra 5’s are installed with the adaptors in the same location as the stock feet. Same location I had the Ultra SS’s. With the plastic clips removed, the Ultra 5’s were easily installed.

Rob.......I have the Stillpoints Ultra SS footers installed on my pair of MC2301 amplifiers. Curious to read your impressions of any sonic differences with the new Ultra 5's installed on your amps.

Unfortunately I have made several changes over the last few weeks/months. Not sure if I will be able to give a Ultra SS to Ultra 5 sonic difference. Especially since my new speakers are still breaking in. Although I can say that my system is sounding cleaner/lower noise floor since adding the Ultra 5's under the amps. Also included in the upgrade was moving the Ultra SS's from the MC2301's to my DAC and tube pre amp. My entire 2 CH system is now on Stillpoints.
